Wow! I liked it. Dark Gotham. Dark story. Great acting.

Any opinions?

I absolutely loved it. Very interesting 'Decent into mental illness' story versus the 'I just want to watch the world burn' Joker from The Dark Knight.
I saw it right after it came out, and still my girlfriend and I will bring it up for no reason- the movie was on my mind for a solid 3 days after.
I would love to see a second one with the same actor, showing more of how we got to the Joker as most people know him. As in, what happened as Bruce Wayne was growing up?

Thanks for your thoughts, Kara503.

Yep, it was on my mind for days afterward also.

Joaquin Phoenix was awesome in his role. Just awesome. Brilliant. Oscar for Best Actor coming right up.

BTW, the Wayne family sideshow was the only real tether to the comic story IMHO. It was there, but it just as easily couldn't have been. Either way.

Whatever the case, Joker to me is a damn good movie, and has nothing to do with any franchise. It is a 100% fine, standalone story, and I made no correlations to the comic book character during it. Didn't cross my mind. Note, I'm not a huge comic book guy, save for Tintin and Asterix.

I agree with your Descent into mental illness characterization. To me, Joker is far closer to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest than Batman.
