Help identifying/adressing parts (vac lines, bat cable) - 99 s70 na

Post by smacknab »

Hi everyone,

I am on the cusp of finishing my first headgasket job ever but I broke a vac line and found a broken battery cable terminal. I'm hoping someone can help me identify the vac line and where it goes, and offer some tips for dealing with the battery cable. Can I just cut the sheathing back and re crimp it like I would any other electrical cable?

For the vac line, I have the top mystery sprue and on the other side of the air box (battery side) is a tiny tiny plastic cable that conencts to the airbox, which had an elbow that snapped off. I'll post a photo soon.

I appreciate any tips offered, thank you!

Helpful message and photos from Abscate:

"Item 1 the white vacuum line. Not mission critical. Two hard thin plastic lines. It takes vacuum from the intake up to the air cleaner to a thermometer switch ,then takes the cmvacuum back to a "motor " on the air flap on the air cleaner

You are missing one of the thin plastic lines , it will be in the engine compartment loose somewhere

The black rubber pieces that connect hard plastic line to the fittings crumble but Advance Auto will have replacements

Duh. I missed where that ground cable goes but it’s in your picture of course

Big lug and a tight crimp on that lug with a vice or big tool. Then clean up the mount point and bolt it back on

The air motor hard pipe connectors, small L shaped rubber grommets are available from Volvo 1332455 or FCP and are different sizes on each end. You can see my solution , using a cheap one from a FLAPS and a zip tie to tighten the end on the hard line

The zip tie color should be opposite the car color of course, hence my orange one.
