Well, that's a great first impression from a dealer!

Yep.

It was a dumb, bad start. Just a simple preventable dealer mistake. Also, she chose possibly the only Volvo (ahem, Mitsubishi) platform made in the last 40 years with average seats. Every other model in modern times has had decent/awesome/thronelike seats.

She never bought another Volvo... since then: RAV4, 2012 diesel VW Sportwagen, VW CC, now 2018-ish Outback/loaded/heated rear (but not 3rd, Abscate) seat. All new cars.

The Outback to me is a monstrously univiting driver's car. Loud, slow 4-cyl, the usual freaky CVT behavior and noises, trucklike seating position and handling. Awful, to me. I'm used to my nimble VW wagon. This is like driving a large, numb forklift in comparison.

She loves it. She got a good deal on it, year-end closeout.

The 2020 Subaru Outback Is the Same but Better

The new Outback has more powerful engines, new tech, and, of course, all-wheel drive.

Subaru isn't interested solely in who its customers are (in the case of the Outback, it's a 45-year-old married man with a college degree making slightly less than $100,000 a year); it also obsessively researches what those customers want. And what they want is for everything to stay mostly the same.

In the design process for this sixth-generation Outback, Subaru workshopped four different design ideas with potential customers. And wouldn't you know it, those customers liked the one that looks almost exactly like the outgoing model. Even details that Subaru points out as having originated during the redesign process, such as the scalloped black rocker panels meant to evoke the sole of a hiking boot, have roots in the previous generation's design.

I don't care if it comes with a cocktail lounge, beautiful women and a West Coast Jazz quintet playing, if it has a 4cyl and/or CVT, not for me.

How about 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid....naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter inline-four gas engine and two electric motors.

Nice, a Sport! Priced fairly if it's mechanically excellent. Any leaks, and I'd feel much better around $5k. Still, not a terrible deal for a fairly rare V8 XC90!
This one is even more tempting!

Oooh, indeed it is! My question is how the heck did he kill the M66? I guess he probably doesn't know what he's talking about, especially since the car is abandoned. Then again, who knows if he has the legal right to sell it... maybe it's at his shop?
Still, a good parts car worst case!

I like the Sportwagen, I would love a 6 speed TDI wagon as a daily driver. It's awesome how cheap they are now, especially with the extended warranty. You could pick up a decent one for under $7k!
CCs are pretty cool too. The Outbacks, those are more of a lifestyle accessory than a car, lol. Like the Car and Driver article says, only 25% of owners actually take them off road. Why not just buy a Legacy wagon if you're not using the car's off road capabilities? Oh yeah, because Subaru decided the US doesn't need that!
And those CVTs... I would never buy a car with a CVT. Yuck!
