Both engines are the exact same displacement, 2,435 cc.

Anaerobic means it will not phase change from liquid to solid in the presence of Oxygen and/or the absence of Metal ions. In other words it must be in contact metal and isolated from air before it will cure.

Correct. I'm hoping the surfaces were not damaged to the point that it won't seal, but we'll see how it goes soon!

Clean the surface and your finger tips. Run your finger tip over the surface and feel for ridges that extend up above the plane.

Ridges can be planed off with wet and dry sandpaper, key word being planed. In other words use just enough downward pressure to maintain contact between the sandpaper and the ridges the let the horizontal motion plane the top of the ridges until they are gone. Mount the sandpaper on a hard backing.

If you watch what you are doing, you can file off the ridges.

You will not be able to remove the valleys without doing more damage then what is already done but that is OK, the sealer will fill the valleys.

There weren't many deep ridges fortunately, just that one big chip from a screwdriver. It's back together now, so nothing I can do at this point but hope and pray that it doesn't leak!

Buttoned some stuff up today, cam adjustment tool is coming tomorrow. Hopefully that T-stat housing gasket gets here soon!

Snabb NA throttle body coupler came this morning.

Already dropped Miata earring shavings in that front one somehow... I'm gonna clean it out today. There's a rag in the turbo outlet though, don't worry!

iPd cam tool came today, so I set the NA cams to the tuner's recommendation of -6 degrees on the intake cam and +3 degrees on the exhaust cam.

I also pulled the thermostat housing... fortunately that went smoothly with no broken bolts. This T40 key worked great for the bottom bolt!

And yes, I have cleaned the mating surface since taking this picture!

The thermostat housing gasket finally arrived today, so I installed that as well as the intake manifold, green injectors, and throttle body. Pretty much all back together now except for the S90 MAF! The ECU is due to arrive on Thursday, so at that point the car will be ready to drive.

Big difference from the S90 MAF to the stock one!

Installed the S90 MAF housing yesterday. The combination of parts I'm using is the ME7 air box lid and the ME7 intake elbow, both found on '99+ turbo P80s. Both pieces are larger to accommodate the 3" (or 3.25"?) MAF, and it's a fairly direct swap onto the M4.4 cars. Plus, this gets rid of the secondary air pump hose connection on the front of the air box, which will no longer be used now that the SAP is deleted.

The stock M4.4 intake elbow has 3 total vacuum barbs, two up top (TCV and FPR) and one down at the bottom, next to the PTC (purge valve vacuum hose). The ME7 elbow has two at the bottom. Since this car also has a vacuum hose for the fuel pressure regulator on here, I will tee that off of the TCV fresh air hose, which will move down to the free vacuum barb at the bottom. I tossed around the idea of adding a barb, but the tee makes more sense.

Clearance is right, but it works! I'd prefer to have the MAF on top to avoid moisture buildup on the sensor, but I don't think it will be a huge problem. If and when this car has reverse intercooler piping, there should be clearance to flip it around, but for now it stays where it is.
Mounting the S90 MAF housing to the ME7 airbox was straightforward, the washers on the two T25s will grab onto the edges of where the clips go for the S90 air box. Holds on great!
You can modify the original air box to accommodate this, but if you're like me and have Volvo parts everywhere, this is a little easier!
I did, however, have to cut off the two TCV brackets on the new air box to clear the intercooler piping and ignition coil.

It's tight, but it should work once I get the new elbow on tomorrow!

The ECU is due to arrive tomorrow, so the car should finally be able to start. Hopefully it'll be good to go right off the bat and not require any fine tuning, but you know it never works that way...
