Greetings all!

Post by Brick75 »

Hello everybody!

Just wanted to introduce myself! My name is Aaron. I am a lover of all cars, but something about Volvos has always fascinated me.

My first experience with one up close was a ride in a bright red 740 Turbo sedan back in about 1986, I was 11. A friend of the family ran a Volvo-Nissan dealer and always drove a 760 Turbo. Knowing I was into cars, he one day rolled up in that 740 Turbo. Something about that car hit me right between the eyes. Then lucky me got to go for a ride. Game, set, match...I was hooked! From there, the next kick in the pants was seeing the 850 wagon running in the BTCC. I thought to myself "They are racing a damn station wagon! This is AWESOME!!!"

Volvo ownership has eluded me over the years. So to that end, I am looking at finally getting one of my own. Originally wanted a 700/900 series, but are sometimes hard to come by up my way. So my aim is now either an 850 or an early V70 or S70, something with that classic silhouette to it.

Been checking this forum out, as well as the MVS main page, and liking what I see! And glad go be part of it!

Cheers,
Aaron

Welcome, Aaron. Thanks for joining. My first Volvo experience was also in a 740 Turbo, also in the mid-1980s, probably 1985. It was my neighbor friend's dad's new gunmetal grey dream machine. He was a doctor.

It was so far beyond any car in the neighborhood, or that I'd even been in. Way beyond. Like the difference between balloon flight and a 707.

We couldn't believe it had a turbo boost gauge, and we pleaded with him to make it go into boost, and he did. :D

Good luck with your search! Let us know how it goes/questions.

Same thing here. I just knew there was something different, and special, about them.

Welcome! For me it was mom's early 70s 164 I fell in love with, from its ultra smooth fuel injected six cylinder to its flowing dash. It was clearly a cut above the other cars of it's time. Being a crazy New York driver she gave it hell! Dad would put the sun visor down and a newspaper up to prevent seeing her driving. In the back seat we were having fun sliding around on the leather seat! Indecently a 1989 740 GLT turbo was my first Volvo. I loved that car better than all the others until I drove the first S80 T6. Still I wish I had my 740 still!!!! I look forward to seeing a post about your first Volvo. June
