Super clean low mileage 2000 V70XC in nautic on BAT:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2000- ... awd-wagon/

Up,to $5250 now

Ask for one picture of raw data on that car and you might feel differently on the exterior. I hate it when people grab the knob and turn the pixel gain up.
Sold for $9400. I'm not surprised at all.

That is crazy stupid big money for a 20 year old P80 with a lot of NLA parts. I’ll use it to price anchor my P80 shamelessly, of course.

I respectfully disagree. I believe you will see a trend towards higher valued examples such as this car because of the fact that they are more and more seen as classic cars, rather than just used cars that make sense to keep up for practical reasons.

What drives the market in that arena are people who used to own one of those cars way back when and now have the desire (and the means) to get one again. And they are looking for the best, low mileage specimen they can find. This is how I ended up with another XC myself when I bought Whitey from JRL
The same trend started happening years ago for the seventies and eighties cars such as the Capri. All of a sudden boomers find themselves wanting them, because their dad owned one and they have fond memories of them, and now prices go up.

In the end it helps all of us if our cars are getting more attention.

I'm half and half on that... I hate seeing cars that I find desirable, yet most people think are junk econo boxes going up in value. The red block cars especially... they were cheap as dirt, then the values skyrocket and these cars get farther and farther out of reach for anyone looking for a cheap project car or affordable transportation. Fortunately, most people who post up these outrageously priced 240s are still laughed off of Facebook and other places. They see one sell for too much on BaT, then they think their beater is the "same thing".
Volvos are still some of the cheapest cars on earth to buy and modify... I haven't seen any vehicles cheaper than Volvos. Even Miatas are pretty expensive compared to Volvos. A $10k buy in for a P80 is just outrageous and unreasonable.

That said, the pristine examples are not at all what I look for... every Volvo I buy is a cheap one that needs work, and I turn it into a nice one myself. My S70, for example, was a $375 non-runner. Now, it'll hopefully fetch close to $3,800... it's a clean, reliable car and although it has 253k miles, EVERYTHING has been replaced and it shouldn't need more than oil changes for a long time.
But I guess that's what draws the line... the mileage. For some reason people get so wrapped up in that number... to me, it has little meaning. When I see a low mileage car like that, the first things that comes to mind are "I bet that oil is 5 years old" or "that timing belt is definitely original". Others see a "brand new" car. I'll never understand that. For that matter, if this S70 only had 60k miles and I touched up some small cosmetic issues, I could ask $10k for it.

Anyway, to my point, the cheap ones aren't going anywhere. The older Turbobricks guys will say all day long "the days of $200 Volvos are long gone and have been for over 10 years". That's not true at all... I've only been in the game for the past 5 years, and almost all of the Volvos I buy are less than $500.. I've even gotten one for free. I guess what they could mean is a really nice one that runs and drives perfectly for that price... which I don't think that was ever a super common thing, either.
The good thing is that for those of us who maintain our cars, when it comes time to sell, we should be able to sell for a good amount of money.

I've been pondering a set of those for sale up here Ben.

Never seen a set of them on an XC or V. Surely would look better than the corroded, curb-checked, flakey-paint clunkers (barely) hanging onto my hubs.

Found this gem recently. So awesome! I've got to make something like this. A car I truly need & care about less than it truly needs & cares about me

5K# winch pulling on bumper + 3 strands of all-thread, hey, I've seen far less strong! Seems to have survived it's owner(s) thus far!

NLA drives up price. Supply and demand, the supply of them cars and parts is declining faster then the population to whom the cars mean something. Keep in mind that population is not just people that had the car before, it includes people the that grew up wanting the car.

I See 10k for a stick shift R, or Atacama, or even the famous cream Yellow 607 T5R 1995 - but 10k for a run of the mill XC, even in beautiful 417, is insane.

This will have the same Al rear suspension that Neil had to order from Sweden - and of course, now, no hope of getting.

Yup... pretty much everything in the rear multilink is NLA aside from maybe one bushing.

I agree though, too much for this car.
