ETM exchange/repair

Post by deano1 »

Hey guys
I know about Xemodex and the excellent service they provide rebuilding ETM and other Volvo electronics but did i read someone on here can exchange or knows which ones are swap-able between cars without getting into compatibility issues?
On my last road trip my 2002 B5244S S60 gave me a scare when the accelerator pedal kinda felt dead and engine hesitating, fuel mileage fell off a cliff. No Codes/MIL though.
After safely pulling off the highway and parking. Turned engine off then back on to reset it ran fine the rest of the trip.
I had my wife's ETM rebuilt at Xemodex for $600. and her car idles glass smooth now. It was always hunting at idle before.
I don't feel like spending $600 if i don't have to.

The problem is without VIDA you don’t know which software is on a ETM bought third party.

The success rate for a junkyard ETM bought and installed and working is about 20% from the data here ( that’s about 2 years ago I compiled a set of 44 experiences.

On edit. The above applies to the earlier MM ETM, not yours. Apologies.

If it’s a Bosch throttle module for your 2003 S60 then it wouldn’t make sense to ship it off for a $600 rebuild when you can buy a brand new one for about half that price. By the way, the Bosch is plug-n- play so there’s no coding required.

Here’s one:

Bosch throttles are typically quite reliable. Are you sure it doesn’t just need a good cleaning?

+1

I installed a new Bosch ETM 0280750131 early last year on my XC70 and it's run fine. I got it for $200 on Amazon.

I believe my car does have MM ETM... I will get picture of serial numbers if necessary.
My wifes V70 did for sure. Both of our cars are M56. Hell they would all be manual if i was in charge.
I did get an ETM from similar year car at scrappers except donar car was auto box and No sir they did not play nice together i end up selling it to Exemodex for rebuildable core.. Yes they buy them.
I've edited my first cry for help to include year 2002..

Cheers.

Sorry for the history question.

Was the MM ETM replaced with a Bosch unit across all models for the 2003 model year or just some?
