Ok, so the 99 S80 T6 has its share of issues. Today I thought I had almost everything fixed. There was NO turbo power last week. So, we cleaned the boost control solenoid, put it back in and there was considerably more power, then it crapped out again. So I bought a new one today, and there sure is more power, but still not the right amount of pep. It almost feels like the turbo power is lost in second gear.
MIJ or Bill, idea on where to go next?
One theory, the air intake hose/tube is missing on this car, and I was thinking maybe its air starved. But, there was power before, so chances are this isnt having a huge effect...
*sigh*
If anyone is even looking...
I've found out a few things today.
1 - the ETM has been replaced once in this cars lifetime. The car currently has about 76,000 miles on it.
2 - The ETM recall 155 is listed as open. One of the issues I hear about the recall are hesitation. I'm wondering if someone can describe the hesitation for me - is it an all the time thing, or just hesitates for a moment when you hit the gas, then goes back to "normal".
3 - I was told elsewhere it could be a Mass Air Flow sensor issue. I was told to unplug it and see if it got any better. I'll say it MAY have been better, especially at lower speeds. But, I still dont have that "throw me into the back of the seat" kind of turbo action... If I do have a mass airflow sensor problem, would this problem have gone away completely or just gotten a little better with the unplug, or could it even hide some other problem. Would I have a code tripped on a bad mass airflow sensor? Of course the code tripped when unplugged... Hate to just throw parts at the problem.
Question - should I be feeling a "throw me to the back of the seat" kind of turbo action?
Made an appt to have the software updated in the ETM, but somehow I dont think thats going to fix this problem...
Would love some help on this - anyone?

Yes, I'm looking now but your first post is timed at 2:01am UK time and that is when I try to rewind my internal mechanism by sleeping. If anyone is even looking...
I have never had that feeling in a road car only in a Phantom jet. Now that has a turbo."throw me into the back of the seat"
If you are not too sure about what happened when you unplugged the MAF sensor and you have the car booked for the ETM update why don't you wait and see if it does fix the problem? The dealer should also read and clear any codes that are there. This may point you in the right direction.

Bill, what on earth are you doing sleeping at 2am?
I had the pleasure of being in the UK a couple of weeks back. One of my co-workers there happened to have a DIESEL V70 wagon. We're definitely deprived here in the states, he had nothing but good things to say about it, including some amazing mileage. Wish Volvo would bring some diesels across the pond...
If the ETM recall doesnt help, I guess I'll be back here asking questions.
I definitely am still missing power here, today I had my foot to the floor on the highway and I was being passed by a few clunkers.
...or was I in the one in the clunker?

We are fortunate to have a good supply of diesel engined vehicles of all makes. My Peugeot motorhome is a diesel and gets much better mileage than a similar petrol unit. However, the cost of diesel is more than the cost of petrol so we have to weigh everything up before committing to diesel.

Bill.
Ok, so the software download is complete for the ETM (155). Interesting point, they said that this reset reprograms EVERY system in the car and resets all the codes, which is pretty cool since my ABS light was on. Now I'll just pray it doesn

Before you do anything else you MUST get the 155 recall.smatt1079 wrote:Just thought I'd confirm what I said earlier.
Definitely dont have all the power I used to have.
Any ideas at all would be appreciated...
This has been out now for nearly TWO years, (April 2006) so what's your excuse?
The ABS light is not going to go out when reset, uif it does it will come right back,. you need to have it rebuilt
