Aceleration problem from start

Post by MALL240 »

Hi , have a 240 Volvo wagon 1990 B230F 2.3 Cat i. 115cv. I bought it last December. I never had a car like that before this, and unknow the real potence of the car... I changed the fuel pump (i believe was broke), oils, sparks, filters... the basic becouse the car was 5 years off. I know the car its from 90, and i know the limitations of the edge, but i think is not normal this. When i acelerated from stop, the car don't run inmediatly, fail, and them start to acelerate. I can't start on full gas. I read a lot of posts about acelerated hesitage... but i dont know my problem. I've cleaned the throttle body, replaced the paper gasket, checked that the pressurised vacuum tube is dry and it is, I haven't checked the injection relay...

The car, at idle fails a bit, it goes up and stays up, since I cleaned, it seems to go better, but there are little jumps like 3 pistons. The car then goes well, at 4 pistons and accelerates well in 3, 4, 5 etc ... but for example, in 2 if I don't give gas and accelerate slowly gives many pulls, as in first ...

Thanks!!!

Sounds like it is getting too much air or is miscalculating the air density.

On a naturally aspirated engine, a MAF can be use do the same task as a MAP ... calculating the air density. You might try cleaning the sensor elements in the MAF with MAF cleaner. Do not touch the sensor part of the MAF, they are fragile and break easily.

Possibles:
Leaks in the Air intake system.
Idle Air Control (IAC) needs cleaning or is stuck.
Dirty or defective MAF sensor.

Watch the video, this guy does a pretty good walk through.

Thanks a lot Rick. Fantastic video!

I cleaned the MAF with a specific spray. I'll look at the IAC again to see if I didn't clean it properly. I'm going to continue to eliminate possible causes...

Greetings

Scratch that, I looked at the pictures in your other post. You do have a OBD port. Do you need instruction on how to retrive the Diagnostics Trouble Codes (DTCs)?

DTCs give one a clue as to what is wrong. That is way better then trial and error diagnostics.

EdiT: Thanks, i go to read it. DTC

PD: I've cleaned the IAC and everything's the same, it seems as if the gasoline, or the spark didn't arrive right away..

We need to know which socket (hole) you plugged the wire in.

But in this case I can deduce you plugged it to socket #2 ECU.

1-1-3 – Lambda control – engine running too rich/lean. (O2 sensor )
1-2-1 – Faulty signal to/from Air Mass Meter. (MAF sensor )
2-1-3 – Throttle position sensor full load setting faulty. (TSP sensor )

Forget about 1-1-3 for now, there are lot thing that can trip 1-1-3.

1-2-1 Clean the MAF electrical connector and check the wiring for shorts and opens.
2-1-3 Clean the TPS electrical connector and check the wiring for shorts and opens.
Clear the codes afterwards and see what come back.

Socket #2 is the ECU.
Socket #6 is the EZK116 or REX1 ignition.
