Worst case it ****might**** need another 1500-2000 to refresh everything to new. From there, you can expect 300,000 miles from that car

What kind of upgrades can I do instead of just replacing?
Any sites I may need to familiarize myself with?

FCPeuro.com! Forum sponsor (at least I'm pretty sure they still are) and they have the best customer service out there. Price and selection are both great as well.

Most of the “ upgrades” are inferior parts compared to OEM

Some will say "Volvo brakes only". Others go with lower dust options as an "upgrade".
I say Bilstein shocks and struts are an upgrade.
Many praise the thicker sway bars sold by IPD.
Many go zonkers over audio options.
There's plenty to do before you optimize your new ride.
You must visually inspect both rear parking brake hardware sets (left & right).
Also perform a glove test on the oil filler neck. This relates to the PCV system
You should do at least one transmission drain and fill (automatic, no?) to see & smell how foul the fluid is. If you've heard that our trannie fluid is "lifetime", you must have that section of your brain removed.
The coolant may be due for a refresh due to age or contamination.
Any service records? You likely need to replace the timing belt. You may be overdue for a complete "Stage 0" tune up.
The cabin air filter in any car can be overlooked.
A brake fluid flush and pin lube might be in order.
Check the spare for air and make sure the jack and wrench are there.

Check the battery age and battery cable condition. These cars must have top condition battery to function properly. Confirm the charging system is strong. Obtain a code reader for Volvo or the full Vida Dice setup.

So I need to replace a broken shifter in this automatic 04 V70 and I was wondering if anyone knows of any other options that fit? I can get an original for $32 on eBay. Just wanted something different. I have a spare lone shifting rod that I purchased to use a shifter I already had but no dice. Doesn't fit. Thank you for your time!
