*sigh*

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

and i meant srs

Post by smatt1079 »

and i meant the srs light, which did go out and hasnt come back.

so anyone else have ideas where to go next?

Actually, if someone could explain to me in detail what activates the turbos and how/where things flow in this car that would be very helpful, so I can start tracing the power path...

Bill, wondering if you have any other thoughts on what can be causing this. As I said, the 155 is done, and no change.

It seems to me that the turbos just arent being actvated, or are only coming on at takeoff and then deactivating.

Is there anything other than the boost control valve I can check?

Hope you or someone else can shed a little light here before I wind up at the dealer.

Thanks!

I have not had problems with turbos so my knowledge is from what I have read.

A couple of links for you which do explain how the turbo works, may be of help:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbocharger

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm

Admittedly the second is very basic but there are links to other sites.

Thanks, thats helped some. I'm sort of a theory guy, and have a pretty good idea of how turbo chargers work. But, beyond theory, I dont know what the other intricate parts of the system are doing, like what the heck this boost control valve is doing. Is it opening or closing the wastegate? My assumption is probably.

I'm wondering if the replacement boost control valve is junk (is there a way to test this?), or maybe i'm not getting the right signal (which I think is vacuum or pressure through the valve) to close (or open?) the wastegate. This theory would mean a clog in the line going to the turbo. Thats been on my mind for a bit now, but i'm concerned about blowing some compresed air through, not sure if there are any seals, etc that I could harm.
