life expectancy of struts and shocks

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Well. If you avoid all season tyres, select a proper brand and stick to the correct load index and size they'll be correct for the size of car. Though I've also heard that on your end it's a good idea to select a tyre made for the European market or a sports tyre since the US regular tyres and substandard, soft and squishy. The Pilot Sport would fit that description.
Piot Sport sucks on S80! It must be a tire made for larger European cars not sport cars. Piot Sport on my S80 T6 turned it from a 7 seriesish feel with the right amount of American luxury to a clunky log wagon. The Piot Sport really suffers from flat spots after cooling overnight. I assume the 2 ton weight of the S80 is the cause. I didn't leave the Pilot Sport on for long it was that bad. Now the hot Florida weather may also be a factor. So if it's made for a BMW 3 series then, Lexus sport coupe or any other smaller sport car than no for the S80... MB S class, BMW 5 or 7 series, yes then as in original equipment tire for either. June
Never take tire advice from women who turn the cars upside down to inspect the tires.
It may seem upside down but she is lifting it above her head and in that case it wouldn't hurt to take her advise.

I did a major overhaul on my 2001 S80 2.4T and it made a hell of a difference. I have Bilstein B4s all around and I cannot recommend them enough. When I bought my S80, it was still sitting on the original shocks & springs (after 300k kms). I used Vogtland lowering springs, but they didnt lower that much, ride quality is good though.

Well done. I put Bilstein HD struts and shocks on mine and really like them. Good that you got all original Volvo parts too. Nou lekker genieten!

Replaced my old worn out factory Sachs with a combination of what was cheap on Rockauto at the time. FCS struts ($55AUD ea) on the front and KYB Just-A-Just shocks ($75 AUD ea) on the back.

One of the front Sachs had absolutely nothing left in it after 200,000km, and the other wasn't too far behind.
Rears were not as worn out as the fronts with some life left in them but still pretty saggy. Amazing difference going to new shocks after removing 20 year old units.

Unfortunately we don't have local stock on things like Sachs or Bilsteins and even ordering from overseas I would be looking at double even triple the price of what I paid for my cheapie setup. The car didn't cost me much so I couldn't justify it even if I wanted :P

Sorry for the sacrilegious words.
