Just to preface, I've never posted on here so please forgive my ignorance. Nor do I really know my way around a car, so if I come across stupid, that's why.
A little background on the car.... It is a 2002 Volvo S60 T5 with a 5 speed manual with about 230,000 miles. It's been well maintained and my dad and I have been steadfast with the upkeep.
Recently (within the past 500 miles) I have noticed an odd ticking noise from my transmission. The transmission has been loud ever since I bought the car (207k) and never really had any major issues with the transmission. I would only hear this ticking noise when the clutch was engaged but I let off on the gas pedal. This sound would go away when I'd press the clutch pedal. Also, this sound has not been constant to whenever I'd drive. It would come and go..... seemingly come when the car has been well warmed up.
Just to note, the clutch does not slip, I do not know when the clutch was replaced, I am not rough on the transmission, and I do not drive a whole lot since I'm a college student.
Any idea what this could be?

The throw out bearing can make a noise when you depress the clutch pedal. But as i understand it you say its noisy when not touching any pedals and the car is idling?..did you find out what it was??..probably start with a transmission fluid change, Volvo says it never needs to be changed but it does.
