My 2005 Volvo XC70 2.5T

Post by Dhillon »

First thread here.. Nice forum. This is my first Volvo, and i am living in Norway. Working as a mechanic, 26 yrs old. Bought this car in August 2019, and got it pretty cheap because it was leaking coolant all over the floormats. So first thing i did was to replace the heat exchanger (hell of a job, but the exchanger only cost 50 dollars.. ) Cleaned the carpets with a vacuum carpet cleaner. I also replaced the right hand driveshaft, because the boot was ripped and all the grease was gone.

Later on i replaced both the rear struts, and it got new rotors and pads all around
Drove it for a while, then the rear diff started howling. Got a used diff from a car with only 100.000 km on the clock. Replaced all the seals and oil on the rear diff, and also changed oil, filter and seals on the Haldex unit. As well as changing the oil for the Angle gear.

As of late, I've rebuild all the calipers + blasted and painted them. I also changed all of the brake hoses. I replaced the ABS pump and block with a good used one with low mileage (had intermittent ABS light, BCM 0070..)

Gave it a service with new timing belt and pulleys, serpentine belt etc., spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter and cabin air filter.
The car has done 300.000km and drives really well. Hoping to keep this for a while.

Dhillon - welcome aboard. Excellent work done with a true craftsperson's pride. That shop you work at is bound to make many here jealous. It would be great that on your next surgery on your car you take photos, list parts and contribute write ups. Your skills will greatly appreciated. The forum awaits the mighty Dhillon's contributions.

How does your car like the 0-30W oil?

Thank you, I am sorry the post and pics are a mess. I will try to clean it up (never posted on forums before..)
The car runs very good on Castrol 0W-30 A5/B5 and it is the only recommended oil for this engine here in Europe/Norway.
