Hey guys,

It's been awhile since my last post. Hope you guys are doing well. So today I changed my front brake discs/rotors and pads. I chose for a brand I wasn't all too familiar with: Mapco. It's a German brand and my local autoparts dealer is really enthusiastic about the brand. First, as the Dutchie that I am, I was a bit sceptic. But he walked outside to his VW Golf V and showed me he had them installed front and rear. So I bought them. I'm curious how they'll brake after 500 kilometers. I'll keep you guys updated!

I did two things.

1) changed snow tires over to summer. Went easy.

2) started my 99 s70 for first time in just about a month since COVID-19 changed my driving habits.
Oh boy.. massive case of Lawnmower syndrome. Classic behavior. Just whirring and whirring.
Initially I just tried to start it and let go of key after 1 second out of habit as I expected it to fire up without an issue.

And since I recognized the symptoms (thanks to this site) I just held accelerator to floor and cranked... and cranked.. and cranked until I got a sputter which turned into super rough idle that I had to keep going with continued adjustment of the accelerator pedal..

Lots of rich raw fuel smells and a nice cloud out of the tail pipe for about 20 second.

Then idled perfectly.

I honestly can't remember what I did the last time I rand it so I don't know if this issue was from back then or letting it sit for month.

Working on this V70, seems it's been sitting for a couple years after what I believe was a head gasket failure. The owner bought the engine from my cousin's V70 that we parted out, and when he saw all the Volvos on the driveway he asked if I could drop the engine in for him. Might as well!
I drained a good 8 quarts of oil/water out of the sump, so all I can think is that the head gasket failed after a severe overheating episode. The coolant reservoir was covered in rusty water stains and there was nothing but maybe a quart of plain water in the cooling system. Engine's totally locked up, so I'm going to pull the transmission with it and worry about pulling the torque converter from there.

Should be! I’m happy to help get this thing back in the road for the owner. Hopefully he’ll want to take care of the other issues it has before he starts driving it, like the antique brakes and dangerously loose tie rod. And a good detail... it’s a little musty!

Replaced the nasty, sagging headliner in the wife's 855 GLT yesterday.

I let her pick the material. We also dyed all of the upper interior pieces to the dark grey. Just need to pop out the sunroof to install the newly-covered sunshade to complete it,

The head might be good, I'll definitely be pulling this engine apart if the owner doesn't want to keep it for scrap. I'm hoping he does the right thing and donates it to me..

What dye did you use? I've been tempted to do similar!
