Look at this link for Worldometer for Italy. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavir ... try/italy/
The daily growth rate I have been calculation shows Italy yesterday at .0489. This is about 10 percent of any US states currently. In my opinion, they have currently slowed the infection spread to a very low level. But if they all go out in public, it will spread again.
They are still having hundreds of deaths each day.

If you want more details, I may be able to get them. I am only taking publicly available information and presenting it in different ways.

Even if we get to the 30-50k vents production in May,we won’t have the staff to support them.

This isn’t a plug and play and breathe situation - patients need to be sedated and typically stay on for two weeks.

What it feels like to survive COVID-19’s dreaded “cytokine storm”

A doctor and coronavirus patient in recovery describes his experience
surviving COVID-19's worst side effect
///
///
SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 is yet another mutation, and clearly is of
greater consequence. Each of these mutations should be thought of as a
unique illness with different aspects and characteristics. Discussion
about the virus — be it about therapy, epidemiology or contact and
respiratory droplet spread — is challenged by the fact we are still
learning about this illness and truly are early on in our
understandings.

An example of this was the comment that the warmer weather will impact
on the natural history of the illness. Well, the CDC just reported
that the illness is acting the same way in Singapore where the
temperatures are currently between 80° and 90° [Fahrenheit]. We must
be careful our speculations are not capturing our imagination and
remain vigilant as we care for one another.

Intelligent laypersons can be trained. I would give my time if a hood based respirator was available.

Good Samaritan laws would be engaged.

I have four degrees including one in medicine and disagree with this statement. Anyone can monitor, agreed, but inducing coma and intubation isnt easy stuff to learn.

I'm not aware that Covid-19 triggers a cytokine storm but a variant could. I think we are banking on religion to hope that it doesn't mutate to a more potent variant, because thats all we got.

The odds are much, much in our favor on this hope, though.

volvolugnut wrote: 05 Apr 2020, 08:52 More statistics on US states and COVID-19 growth rates. My raw information is from Worldometer. Any errors or misrepresentations are my own.

These tables show all available US states and territories and the COVID-19 data for the last 5 days. I have sorted the states alphabetically and added growth rates for last several days for all states with ranking of each day. Of course, this information changes daily. I have presented the table in two parts because of the screen shot, but it is actually one table in Excel.

Again, results change daily.
State growth rates for April 5, 2020.

For your information, the top 5 states yesterday in growth rate (the worst containment) are US Virgin Islands, Guam, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota. All 5 of these states have less than 1000 cases each, so numbers are somewhat distorted.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.088 for yesterday, down from previous day of 0.133. This was the first time since March 6 the USA growth rate has been this low. There are many states with growth rates now below 0.01 which calculates to doubling cases in over a week. There was also as significant drop in the USA deaths yesterday. Previous day US deaths were 1331 and yesterday deaths were 1165. I might dismiss new cases as a 'weekend effect', but I do not think death waits till after the weekend. Perhaps we have turned a corner in USA. The next days may give more answers.

Stay safe out there.

Novartis, Incyte to test Jakavi for coronavirus-linked cytokine storm
3rd April 2020

Novartis and Incyte are planning to launch a clinical study to test the potential of Jakavi (ruxolitinib) in patients with COVID-19 associated cytokine storm, a type of severe immune overreaction that can result from the infection and may contribute to respiratory compromise in some patients.

According to the Swiss drugmaker, preclinical and preliminary clinical evidence suggests that the JAK inhibitor could reduce the number of patients requiring intensive care and mechanical ventilation.

If this truly were the dominant mechanism of death we would see more mortality in the young age groups, which we don't. This happened in the second wave of the 1918 epidemic, of course.

Of course, some patients can have this reaction.
