Truly I haven't a clue what anyone on commercial TV say or are saying as I don't watch anything with commercials. I'm not sure your point as your link does not play on my Android phone. Personally I ignore the news as it's usually bad, and biased politically.

The snippet you quoted me saying is observation of people here in Jacksonville. People are acting like nothing is wrong and not taking proper precautions. I think that is crazy! June

These tables show all available US states and territories and the COVID-19 data for the last 5 days. I have sorted the states alphabetically and added growth rates for last several days for all states with ranking of each day. Of course, this information changes daily. I have presented the table in two parts because of the screen shot, but it is actually one table in Excel.

Again, results change daily.
State growth rates for April 17, 2020. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate (the worst containment) are: North Dakota (0.208) with 439 cases, Minnesota (0.199) with 2071 cases, Delaware (0.151) with 2323 cases, Iowa (0.143) with 2332 cases, and South Dakota (0.107) with 1411 cases. South Dakota has been in the top 5 the last 10 days. They have also been in the news this week.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0549 for yesterday, up from previous day of 0.0521. This is not population or case number weighted.

North Florida beaches were among the 1st to reopen since closures, and that state's governor shows lackadaisical behavior towards medical consequences, while attempting to support that WH troll. Consequences (hard knock learning) will have to be the teacher down there.

Cases explode in states with no stay-at-home orders.

Oklahoma up 53%
Arkansas 60%
Nebraska 74%
Iowa 82%
South Dakota 205%

This destroys any idea pushed by Trump and his allies that restrictive
mitigation measures aren't needed in rural USA.
I ignore the news
There is good news out there:

Dozens of financial firms want pharma to place Covid-19 patients over
profits

More than three dozen asset managers, pension funds, and insurers are
urging the pharmaceutical industry to cooperate in the fight against
Covid-19 by sharing research data and providing affordable worldwide
access to medicines, diagnostics, and vaccines.

In a letter to be sent to more than 15 large drug makers---including
Roche (RHHBY), Gilead Sciences (GILD), and Johnson & Johnson
(JNJ)---the investment firms argue that "financial considerations
should take second place in the global challenge of getting the
coronavirus under control as quickly as possible
."

Moreover, the firms vowed to "closely monitor" the drug makers in
which they invest in coming months and also promised that concerns
surrounding Covid-19 medical products will be tracked during
shareholder meetings as well as the "normal" interactions with company
managements.

Footnotes -

I suspect most seniors there will attempt to avoid the coronavirus 'storms' and stay sheltered. Future hospital admissions may represent a skewed demographics towards younger ages. If so, lower death rates will exist, and where seniors spend their monies when out and about will be flat (same as now). Political rhetoric that suggests "see, its not that bad" will be biased..

With several meat packing houses closed for several weeks, if there are meat shortages at food stores, maybe this will be a wake-up call for MAGA 'lovers' who went marching at several state capitals this past week. Restaurants buy about 23 percent, and most are closed, so there may not be a meat shortage.

Industry experts said that the shutdown of beef processing facilities could prompt another round of hoarding at the grocery stores, as with toilet paper and milk several weeks ago.

Gilead Sciences’ Remdesivir

"Like a bad song clears out a dance floor, remdesivir can clear the
viral levels in a person, as long as it can interrupt enough
replication. The key, researchers say, is that it has to be delivered
somewhat early in an infection, as the virus is still proliferating.
In patients who develop severe disease, it's not the virus that's
always the main problem. The body's own immune system can react by
heading into overdrive and causing secondary complications like organ
damage. An antiviral can't head that off once it's begun."

State growth rates for April 18, 2020. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate (the worst containment) are: US Virgin Islands (0.500) with 53 cases, North Dakota (0.403) with 528 cases, Minnesota (0.178) with 2213 cases, Nebraska (0.146) with 1287 cases, Ohio (0.141) with 10,222 cases. South Dakota (0.141) with 1542 cases, tied for 5th place.

In the right column today I have added a measure of the drop over time in each state's growth rate. The number is total of days in the last 12 days when the 5 day moving average has fallen from the previous day moving average. Data is from 5 day moving avergae from April 5th to April 17th. The best score here is 12. Notice New York and New Jersey both score 12. This is not a quantitative measure but does indicate the rough trend.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0475 for yesterday, down from previous day of 0.0549. This is not population or case number weighted.

Well I'm going to have to take a bit of a unpopular position here, and say that I think that feces will be hitting the rotating oscillator hard if a lot of the country, geographically, is not allowed to open back up for business soon. People can only take so much. You can't scream at folks to STAY HOME NOW without, in an equally loud voice, saying WE WILL GET YOU $$$ NOW. You can't demand that people stop working and think that the old " the check is in the mail " routine is going to hold water. Not one of my bills has arrived even late. Not one creditor has said " don't worry about paying this bill ". The best I've heard is " we won't disconnect " but you are still liable for the bill. How many people are going to be looking at multiple balloon payments in the coming months ? And $1200 for all that down time is laughable. As to unemployment payments, good luck with that. Systems are overwhelmed, and regardless of what they say, if your self employed your screwed. The unemployment systems are set up for employees who have contributed to their unemployment insurance through their employer. The first thing an unemployment office will ask for is paystubs. Expecting the whole system to just change overnight, particularly in the middle of this crisis, is wishful thinking if not idiocy.
So unfortunately I'm predicting a whole lot of social unrest in the coming weeks, if people continue to be spoken to but not heard. Also having a Democratic mayor deploying drones to spy on people will likewise backfire and will give more ammunition to you know who and his flying monkeys. Another misstep that will bring back the old " Government by mommy " and " They're spying on me " rallying cries. Letting people get back to making a living can blunt much of this. Risky, yes. But kind of an Argo situation. I think a depression will far outlast the virus, and if extrapolated over years, could kill just as many if not more.

I'm now ready to be flamed....
