88 Volvo 765 tic Service Light Resetting.

Post by lummert »

I have another question:
I looked in Volvo Forum Archives and found nothing for my car.

How do I reset the service light? The manual at the library states that it has to be reset from the back of the instrument panel. I have read somewhere on one of the Volvo Forums that it can be reset with the button to the left of the speedometer. I tried that with the engine running but that might be the wrong procedure. The button has a rubber seal behind the instrument panel lens. When I push the seal it wiggles around. I have read that this rubber seal has to be removed to reset the light. What is the correct procedure for turning off this service light.

Any input on this problem would be greatly be appreciated.

Look at your instrument cluster and see if there is a small rubber plug toward the bottom of the face. If so, pull the plug and push in with a small screwdriver and that takes care of it. If there is none then you need to go to the back side of the instrument cluster and push a switch on the more left side of it. You will have to remove the cluster. some folks just disable it. Check brickboard.com RWD FAQ for a good explanation. That board has the best info. for RWD Volvo's available.

There is a rubber plug to the left of the speedometer. The plug is on the other side so I cannot remove it to push the button. The light goes off after a few minutes and has been this way since I bought the car.

Thanks for your input

The plug for resetting wife's 91 940 SE is just to the left of the speedometer. Just pluck it out with a fingernail or small screwdriver. Once removed push a slender tool into the hole, push in and that will reset it. This is the same as on my 940 T. I did have an 87 740 that was reset on the back of the instrument cluster.

I will give that a try. The plug looks to big to get through the hole.

Thanks for the input.

I looked at the rubber plug in the instrument panel and the rubber plug is on the wrong side. Someone has pushed the plug through the hole. Any idea how to get the plug out without taking the instrument panel apart?

Thanks in advance for any reply to this problem. :?:

You would have to remove the instrument panel. Or, just forget it. Decisions!!

Well, It's not worth the hassle to take the dash apart. I have been putting up with the light for more than two years, so I can put up with it awhile longer. It goes off after a few minutes any way.

Thanks for the reply.

You should still be able to reset the light just by pushing in with a small screwdriver, or a small piece of black electrician tape over that area does a fine trick.

I have tried pushing the button but it doesn't turn the light off. Since the light turns off after a few minutes the black tape will not be needed.

Thanks for your reply.
