Speakers 88 Volvo 765 TIC

Post by lummert »

I have a couple of questions:
1) My door speakers have a 5.25 in. hole pattern. The door speaker mounting screws have a 5.75 in. pattern. The radio is Kenwood Cassette receiver with Kenwood speakers. The speakers are too small for speaker mounting screws. Do I need to find some Volvo speakers or will they not work with my radio?

2) I am replacing the grille and grille support brackets on my 88 Volvo 765. The left side support bracket bolt heads into the headlamp mounting bracket have twisted off after soaking them with WD 40 for two weeks. I have since read in FAQ that PB Blaster is best. There is enough of the bolt sticking out to get locking pliers on them. The bolts are screwed into what looks to be brass inserts in the plastic headlamp mounting bracket. Am I doing everything that I can do to remove these bolts?

Any input on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

1. I can't see any reason why Volvo speakers would not work with a Kenwood radio if the wattage is the same.

2. As far as I can remember there are only two bolts holding the grille bracket in place.

Thanks for the reply.

I have already replaced the right headlamp so those bolts are new. I tried to loosen one of the bolts on the left bracket today and my locking pliers were slipping. I was using a small pair of locking pliers as I don't want to twist the bolts off again. I suppose I will have to wait until a warm day and unbolt the headlamp assembly and try some larger locking pliers.
