12 Nm on the trigger wheel bolt. thats about 8 foot pounds of torque. Barely a wrist muscle twist on a 6 inch wrench.

You can hold the trigger wheel with your fingers and achieve that torque, or grab it with a plier.

That's great, takes more worry out if my mind.

So then, with that tight ,and my marks on the cams and crank are good then I'm good to install belt? When installing, should I forward the vvt cam clockwise, going the 8° of play until it stops, then in stall belt, without it falling back to retarded position? This part is not clear on any video to me.

The exhaust cam has to be set to,the timing mark while being turned counterclockwise, so,the sprocket will be in the counterclockwise lock position on the cam. Is it a loose or sprung VVT hub?

Rest assured you can’t damage the engine if you have the wrong clock on then hub, it’s only two teeth range.

I just spent 10 days doing this incorrectly based on videos and advice, so it was as clear as mud to me too.

It's not sprung. But I'm losing what you're saying. What do you mean about two teeth? And I m having to really put leverage on it going either way. So if I go past it , I have to go back. That's my question about CCW vs. CW. Are you talking about the reloading going CCW?

And if I DO reload, it wouldn't be with the belt on, right? Can I PM you to give out my phone number? Would be a lot easier.

Two teeth is the most the sprocket moves relative to the cam

Here is the procedure to set the crank and cam for, belt removal and replacement

All of that would be great in my situation, but, again, understand that the belt is off!!

I must align my crank, and both cams without the belt, meaning I cannot reload my cams using the method presented.

How does one reload the vvt cam in my situation , with belt off and having landed on my mark turning the sprocket CW AND CCW ,at the end to get it perfect, as if the belt were on.

If it were a solid cam, you would just grab the sprocket and set it to the mark, then put the belt on. It doesn’t matter which way you turn the sprocket since they have a fixed position to the cam.

With VVT, you do exactly the same thing, except you have to approach the mark from the counterclockwise direction, so that the sprocket is fully ccw in relation to the cam.

As long as the crank is on the mark, you can turn the cams anywhere, Nothing will hit.

Fully CCW as in when turn the cam 8 degrees CW the mark would be about 5 min past ?

Still, how can I perform the reloading?

And when putting on belt, the cam should stay fully ccw?

Definitions
Sprocket...geared part you fit the belt on
Cam - part you can’t see inthe engine.

The sprocket on a VVT car will turn about 16 degrees of cam rotation, or two teeth, without turning the cam.

Correct, when the mark is lined up, if you rotate the sprocket it will be two teeth off

The procedure says you remove/ install the timing belt with the sprocket rotated counterclockwise

With belt off:

Put crank on mark
Put intake cam on mark
Turn exhaust sprocket past markclockwise. By several teeth, like1/4 turn
Then turn sprocket back to mark until it lines up

Install timing belt

Adjust tensioner
Now turn crank two revolutions and confirm all three marks register

Readjust tension.
