2000 V70R coming out of hibernation

With the (hopeful) start of my new garage in a months time and the temporary exit of the 4Runner (thanks careless truck driver) for door repairs, I reckoned it was time to exhume the poor old 'R'. It was only driven for 3 weeks last April (2019) again as a stand in for when the Toyota fluid suspension failed, and then the drive in -30C on New Years eve to our new house to be unceremoniously abandoned at the side of the rear drive. I did at least eventually buy a nice car cover to protect it during the worst of the winter when the 'boss' decided her car would have the only garage space!

So today, went out, removed the cover, checked the tires (still on winters) and refitted the battery which had been on trickle charge for last 5 months.

Moment of truth, turned ignition on to II, dash lit up, waited a few seconds as I didn't hear the fuel pump and turned the key. Car started up immediately and settled into nice idle. Amazing!

I let it idle for a few minutes and switched off and checked the fluids. Only concern was the coolant. The header bottle was almost dry?? When I removed the cap, I saw what looked like traces of leaking coolant from under the lid. Hopefully nothing serious. I will have to venture out in the next few days to see how it runs on probably square tires from sitting so long and also hope no more coolant loss.

Please tell me that photo wasn't taken today......because if so.. that means you still have snow on the ground???

No, thankfully, but only photo I had to hand. Although 2 weeks ago we did still have snow!!

What kind of 4runner?

2003 Toyota 4Runner V8 Limited. Vehicle is not far from mint, but spent all last year moving building materials around. Only major fault is not having the HD trailer hitch.

The car is a 1 previous (cheapskate) owner who stopped servicing it at Toyota when hit with the cost of 96,000km service. He never did any of it and the dealer never checked what he told them (full dealer service). When I checked it had no other history with it. It cost the dealer $6000 to bring the servicing up to date!

It now has about 167,000km on it but I have spent a lot to keep it mechanically fit including the failed X-REAS fluid suspension replacement last year.

For the most part I like it as it is comfortable, but rust is the enemy unlike my Volvos. If XC90's had good front seats that is what I would have had, troublesome V8 and all!
