I regret that the Dodge Dart I sometimes got to drive to school was sent to the scrap yard by my dad. It still had a useful 225 slant six engine and push button auto transmission. White with red interior.

There was only one Mopar I ever looked at and test drove. In 1984 when I was looking for my first car. I spotted a convertable with a for sale sign on a rual highway. It was cream colored paint and brown top and interior. It was to my memory a 1967 (it was a 68) Imperial convertable in mint condition except ac was out. It had the 440 engine with two carburetors maybe three. Not sure. It had the strangest shape air cleaner. I am almost certain it was 2 4barrel. $800.00 asking price! I went and got my uncle to look at it. I floored the accelerator while doing 55 mph down the highway and the front end lifted up and it started smoking the tires! It actually scared me! My uncle ruined it for me telling my parents I would just wreck it and maby die... I bought a 1964 Mercury Montclair Marauder instead. I really loved everything about that imperial and still wish I had bought it. It had such class, grace, elegance, and by far one of the most powerful engines in it.
Most people seem to have saved the more common cars and the kid cars while the most glorious cars ever made in America had the big block engines removed and then crushed... if I had known what this future has brought us car wise, I would have bought every American car like that I could have found and stored them! The 440 version rolled off the factory floor with a one Holley R-3667A 4 barrel. Back then there where lots of aftermarket intakes with different setups. Dual quad, Tri-Power (an arrangement of three two-barrels) AKA 6 pack. You could get dual quad intakes that out rigged two four barrels carburetors. Up and out to the sides of of the engine like the out riggers on a boat. The idea was to keep the fuel cooler. Same idea as the Thermo-Quad carburetor.
There was a 70s camaro parked down the street for 6 months. Every so often you would see the owner trying to get it to run. One day I went down to check it out. Took one look reached down and reconnected the leakage between the two quad carburetors. It fired right up and keep on going. Boy was the owner embarrassed but he took it with grace.

Remember 1984 was a long time ago and I didn't buy the car. So I looked at photos of the two versions of the 440 available in 67 Imperial convertable. It was this engine with two air intakes. At 16 I didn't know much about engines. Here is definitely the the breather the car had. I remember the compressor being front and center as it was bad. I thought it would be easy to change. I do remember the 440 sticker on the breather just impressed me thinking power! June
Addendum
I've been looking at convertable Imperial cars for sale. Apparently 67-68 were a generation in itself. The more I look at them, I realize the one I test drove was a 1968 model as it had the grille with the bird in the center like the taillight. If the numbers online are correct, less than 500 were made. I can't find one with the strange breather. It must have been a rare option. I never forgot that car. June

That is a stock single 4 barrel. The single wing nut post is the give away. You had 350 hp at you disposal that day. The 350 hp was only half the story. The other half was the TorqueFlite transmission.June wrote: ↑13 Jun 2020, 18:14

The two intake pipes are position to get a little rammed air. Forces a little more Oxygen into the cylinders.

When I first posted about that car it was strictly my memory. Then I decided to add photos of what one looks like since this is MVS and it's a long gone non Volvo. Here is a page out of the original brochure. They called the engine "high performance dual". Chrysler does not give the torque or horsepower rating for the high performance dual 440. The 440 Six Packs were faster 0-60 than Hemi 426 if I recall correctly, but the Hemi was faster in the 1320 ft. I know we're talking about a dual carb here, but I just had to add my 2¢ because how often do I get to write "440 Six Pack"? it just sounds powerful.

I pretty sure Mopar never produced a Dual quad 440. Mopar did produce some Dual quad 413 and Dual quad 426.
