Camshaft Adjuster came greasy?

Post by melmaclifeform »

I ordered the parts to do my CVVT hubs on my 2004 Volvo XC70, and the exhaust adjuster came in the mail and it was quite greasy. I was wondering if that was normal or if it's supposed to be entirely dry?

I'm assuming it arrived damaged and I think I should return the part, but I wanted to know if it was normal or not.

Mine have been oily as well. Just clean the exterior up with brake parts cleaner before you put the sprocket on etc. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it was obviously banged up.

Edit: that’s assuming you purchased new VVT hub(s).

Assembly lube keep parts and tools from corroding in the shelf. They use to wrap a lot of things in wax paper for the same reason. Gives them a long shelf life. Keep that in mind for parts, tools, engines ... ect. heading for storage.

probably normal, considering many parts are made in asia in humid conditions, then container ship across the ocean.
they used to coat parts with cosmoline, don't know what they use now.
