One thing I forgot to mention, FCP now sells the “inner” VVT O-rings. I have not personally tried them so I cannot attest to their fitment, but I would definitely be replacing mine at 120k as long as you have it apart. I tried some off eBay and all the ones I received were of inappropriate fitment so ultimately I ended up buying new VVT’s. I’d add the o-rings to the other seals you’ll already be replacing if you’re chasing a front sided oil leak.

Thanks all,

Looks like I will order 2 Front Cam Seals and 2 Rear Cam seals.

All Corteco brand.

Will skip Crank seal for now.

PS: The kids' car (1998 S70 GLT) lasted until 2018 with 190K miles w/o any leak from Crank seal. The only leak was Cam seals at 145K miles. Trans went out in 2018, sold for $300.

Is the crank pulley nut single use? I’m not finding that in VIDA for 99 or 05

I just took some photos of my 2005 XC90 2.5T with 120K miles...

- If you have a shop change the seals, then do all 3 (cam x 2 and crank x 1) to save money later on labor.

- Since I do my own and I rarely see a crank seal leak before 180K-200K, I will replace cam seals x2 and leave the crank seal alone for now. I can always do the crank seal later w/o the need to remove the VVT hubs (and locking the rear of the camshafts)...

- Here you can see oil on subframe and timing cover. The area below the CRANK pulley is dry.

Camshaft seal to give at 120k is premature. Our 2001 V70XC leaked at 196K, however the 1997 850 at 178K is still dry but oil pan seal has weakend.

The oil pump function and crank pulley keeps the seal in place very well. But the gasket and seals, in our case, had crumbed upon removal.

Lubrication controls need restoration. FWIW...
