For 1998 the AME transmission options where AW50-42 or M56. For the rest of the world AW50-42, M56 or M59.

Sorry If I'm missing something, is it actually a m59 and not a m56?

I'm just curious what the market is for a non-running p80 sedan with a manual really is

1000 firm for a non running 22 year old car seems unreasonable, but I guess these are rare. Curious what others think since it's a m56
Sitting for a year, needs, work... $500 car. It's gonna take a LONG time to sell that for $1k.
But yes, that's an M56. Only manual option in the US.

The hint is there "Etc. etc. have $2800 in receipts for parts."
I hate when sellers talk about what they have into a car like that's gonna bring up the value... it means nothing! I probably had way more than that in receipts for my old V70, I sold it for around $2,300. Though the records help the value, if a car isn't perfect, it's not getting top dollar.

I probably wouldn't pay $2,000 for that platinum. It looks like it's all there, just not in that great condition.

He will get his fish for a T5M in that color, at that price it will sit though.

Im surprised he is parting out a T5M for a simple clutch cylinder job, but you gotta have the time or the money.

$1000 clutch job and then maybe get $2500-3500 for the running car - unless there is more wrong than he is letting on.

The way I interpret it is: They are not looking to sell the car, they are looking for a bailout. :o

This is so tempting! All my cars, yes all need some kind of tweaking and I'm just not... Was thinking the gas might be greener besides hoping it's something simple.

You need to know what the fault code is. It could be many things including the emissions pump. That is a job from hell but doable. Part is expensive. Pump is hidden above rear axle and sub-frame. I did a how-to about 5 years ago.

Nasty ding on the drivers door too, and missing front floor mats in pictures.

Plus is it does not have the 4-C adjustable suspension. New shocks are Sachs, but these cars can be (like all Volvos) finicky on parts and some of the aftermarket stuff is bad.

First thing is to get the fault code. These cars can get complex (read expensive). Check if the service history includes an AWD service (up here that is $1400 CDN and should have been done by this mileage, and this does not include an oil change to the angle gear), and also a trans flush. These are 'optional' but should be done every 50,000 miles. Most owners bypass due to the cost (here it is $500 CDN).

Go through the history and check last service at Volvo dealer for 'declined' work. I had an XC90 that had a rod knock the previous owner neglected to mention!

Don't know your position, but if you have a good dealer, a purchase inspection is worth considering. Up here they are about $200 CDN (about $150 US) but worth every penny. Same XC90 above drove ok but had a few issues I could see. Dealer cost to repair was $12,000 CDN! Twice what car was worth.

The P2's are good cars, but I find the seats are poor compared to P80 seats.

Good Luck,

Neil.

Agreed. And the P2 wagon has noticeably less interior space than the P80 wagon, especially in the front cabin. So disappointing ...
