"New" UEM Issue with FOB/Key Pairing

Post by benpineapple »

Hello! I'm having an odd issue with my Upper Electronic Module. I'll give a brief history of how this happened, and why it's not working according to the Volvo dealership.

So, I picked up an old '01 V70 X/C for my wife last summer. It had lots of small issues I worked through. The rear-view mirror looked gross, the glass element had browned, or looked drippy, so I tossed it and put one in that I bought on eBay. Donor part was the exact same part number, and even came off of an '01 V70 X/C. FOB worked with the old UEM. Volvo dealership confirmed the "new" UEM I put in is compatible and correct.

At the time I did not know that the UEM was housed in the mirror, otherwise I would have not thrown it away. So, I took the V70 to the dealership to have the FOB re-paired, and asked them to make a spare key as well. They've had it for 2 weeks, I've been checking in and they've made no progress. Today they called me and told me the job couldn't be done.

According to them, they are able to successfully load the software into the "new" UEM, and the car accepts/recognizes it. They can see that there are 3 empty slots for new keys/FOBs, and they are saying when they enter the codes for the new key and FOB, the UEM simply will not accept it. They are telling me they can't afford to spend any more time on it. I'm a little frustrated to being paying a $400 bill for something they couldn't fix or accomplish. I know they spent a lot of time on it, so I'll pay the bill; maybe it's not their fault this was all a waste.

Has anyone else had this issue? And if so, what was your solution? I'm hesitant to buy another used mirror unit if I'm just going to blow another $400 to end up getting nowhere.

It is very easy.
Every UEM has a original access pincode. When dealer try to download original data from server to your used UEM, they cannot do it successfully, because pincode from server does not compatible to pincode from your used UEM. There are some ways to fix this "issue":
1. You can ask dealer to install new UEM (I mean NOT used but realy NEW brand module) and download original SW and data from server to it. (But here also there are pitfalls.)
2. If you still did not throw away your original UEM and you have DiCE also, you can use our online service for transfer sw and data from your original UEM to your used UEM, or you can mail UEMs to us.
3. If there is not original UEM already and your remote has partnumber 8685150 and you have DiCE, you can mail your remotes for reset service to us, after this procedure we able to program it to your used UEM like new remotes (for us does not matter your pincode). Or you can send us full kit, remotes and UEM, we will do same operation in our lab.
