2004 V70 Pinhole Leak in Gas Tank Stem
I had a check engine light on and was told I had Evap code showing. Replaced gas cap and it returned. The shop did a smoke test and determined it is a pinhole leak in the gas tank stem. They put some silicon on it and the car was fine for about a month. Light came back on and they discovered the silicon did not hold because the stem is ridged. Apparently the tank and stem are all one piece on this car. The shop said they could not help me further because of limitations on their knowledge. I would like the problem fixed and the check engine light cleared for future inspection and possible sale. Car has 160k and in good shape otherwise. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

It would be great if you would post a picture. Maybe a patch could be fashioned - but without seeing the problem hard to tell.
Also - I punched in 2004 V70 2.4 and looked at the fuel tank set up - It does not appear to be a one piece unit.

Thank you for the reply. I will have a talk with another mechanic as I am not very handy with cars, consequently don't have a picture.

Looking at the diagram it looks like there will be a seal for every part. If the stem is where the filler pipe meets the tank there should be a seal. I would not use JB as there will be some flex on every parts of the tank system.Johnnyangel wrote: ↑20 Jul 2020, 06:33Thank you for the reply. Sometimes mechanics cherry pick the jobs they want to do.
Theres a couple of videos on youtube by robert spinner for the 850, your car might be slightly different.
