Evap hose damaged but intact

Post by chris11211 »

So the last guy who replaced the pcv system was pretty violent or stupid with the evap rubber that goes to the intake.

No, I'm not interested in spending $100 on a glorified hose; and on top of that I plan on changing the pcv myself, but I don't know what's going to happen if I attempt to pull it off and end up with an evap leak.

I am wondering if this tube from ipd is the one with the right diameter https://www.ipdusa.com/products/7155/10 ... lvo-949701, or is there a better silicone replacement that will do the job just fine. Also wondering where can I get the right otiker or screw clamps for the tube?

Maybe i should just see what happens after i reinstall?

Look at it closely all the way back & if those are the only cracks, just snip off the end & plug the remaining length back in. There is more than enough length to do so. I’ve done that several times.

Combination of age and wrong clamp which tears the rubber. If you can get a bit more slack and get the hose to run straight of the barb instead of being cut from the inside out that will help life too.

A 1/2 PEX fitting might work? 40 cents in the 25 pack.

I don't recall the hose fully - whether it is one piece or a section of a multi hose set up. Either way prior responses are solid.

Snip the hose at the end of the cracks as suggested and see if it will plug in. Take the snipped piece to your local parts store and find some suitable replacement hose. Either tap into it with a junction/barb fitting or replace the entire piece with new hose.

If you don't have the right clamp just reuse what you have - not perfect but they work. I have a kit of oetiker clamps and they are great. You can order the clamp when you buy the PCV parts (site sponsors have them - if you don't know the size call and ask). As you don't have the clamp you cannot read the size of of it, but most oetiker style clamps have the size stamped on them.

Volvo hoses are pretty darn good - they last a long time,. Yest they are spendy. I have on multiple occasions replaced a section or an entire hose with part store application specific generic tubing. Usually I do this because I encounter a problem and don't want to wait. I have never had an issue, but again application specific tubing - meaning don't use washer fluid tubing when oil, heat and fuel resistance is needed.

Not a fan of silicon tubing unless it came with it from the factory - your regular hose has lasted 14 years.

Great tips guys. Thx!

I'm still wondering if the hose I linked is the right diameter though?

@SuperHerman Yeah its a multi hose setup that cost $100 which is absurd. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... o-30757307
