Swapped the head on my 940 today. I just put an iPd turbo cam in this refreshed head (came with my 240, straight from the machine shop!) and adjusted the valves. Since I've had low compression on cylinder 1 and it's been idling like crap since I bought it, I went ahead and tore into it. Plus it started backfiring on full throttle acceleration. Probably a separate issue, but I'll get to it.

Red blocks are ridiculously easy to work on... it almost feels like cheating. As of now, I just need to put the valve cover and timing belt back on, then it'll be done!

I replaced the Expansion tank Coolant, and installed V70 Diesel rear springs to replace the old ones. I ask myself if it could be a good idea to replace also the bushing from the suspension rear axle control arm...

Made heaps of progress today. While investigating my AC line vacuum leak I narrowed part of it down to the Schrader valve. I replaced the valve with a new one but did not have the proper tool to tighten it. Went to homedepot to buy the proper tool today but quickly discovered it was too small to engage the valve and too shallow for the spring. I was so annoyed I decided to make some "adjustments". A little drilling and filing fixed the fitment. The vacuum seems to be leaking much slower now. Its so slow now I may have to charge it with dye to find where its coming from.

Second task today involved my version of the PCV mod. Majority of methods involve a larger hose and barbed elbow connectors. I've seen one post that rerouted the hose up through the intake manifold and over the engine to the PTC valve. I don't like how 90 degree connectors slow down the flow (probably wouldn't matter for this purpose). I wanted to route the hose the normal way and maintain the best airflow possible. I bought supplies for multiple scenarios to try out. I purchased 3ft of 5/8 pushlock hose from Amazon.

Option 1: traditional Volvo pcv hoses. I fail the glove test everytime with super clean oil passages thanks to years of full synthetic oil use like mobil1 and liquimoly. So it's time for an upgrade.

Option 2: cut straight lengths of 5/8 hose and use brass elbow connectors and clamps. Homedepot had a very nice selection of PEX brass fittings. The 3/4x3/4 fit perfect for this hose.

Option 3: route 5/8 hose the normal way but prevent kinks in the hose. My solution, homedepot had a set of springs the fit nicely into the hose. An inner spring prevents the hose from collapsing. It makes the hise resistant to forming angles. I purchased some EZ coils to to force the hose into the appropriate angle while the inner spring prevents kinks.

Finished the day installing the new radiator. Getting the radiator/intercooler/condenser sandwich bolted together was a pain.

I like that setup! That should work well with the springs.

Finished the head gasket job on the 940 today, and it still runs like crap. I need to diagnose this tomorrow, but now that I know the head is done, it's probably something along the lines of fuel. Looking at the boost gauge, it's probably a vacuum leak, but I can't find one. This is driving me nuts!

Also installed a Snabb short throw shifter plate in my R the other day, but I had the bolt too tight initially, which caused the shifter to be incredibly tight and hard to get into 1st and 3rd. I readjusted it today, and now it feels great! I still don't like the shifter feel of these cars, but the Snabb delrin shifter assembly bushings, stainless cable bushings, and short throw plate make a big difference over stock. Might swap it over to the shorter position.

I'm missing both screws that attach the top of the fan shroud to the engine bay. I'm looking for bolt #4 in this diagram. Anyone know what size they are?

Very clean ! I like that upgrade. Did you change/upgrade the smaller hose as well ? I have a new PCV system installed but when I do the head gasket etc, I'd like to do everything I can to improve the breathing.

They're longer coarse thread T25 head screws. They just screw right into the plastic, so the size doesn't matter too much. I know I have a bunch lying around, I'll see if I can find one and post a pic.
