09 S60 A/C not chilling at all

What is the troubleshooting tree, for lack of a better name, for me to follow to suss out where the flaw(s) is(are) that are keeping my 09 S60 from having functional air conditioning. Car has 108k mi, otherwise excellent shape.

1996 850 Turbo Gold Edition, 7 years' reliable service and >220k mi, sadly now gone
2009 S60 2.5T, sent away after taking me down Via Dolorosa. Happy to be rid of it.

Look first for about 1 min at the compressor clutch plate if it's engaging at all, also inspect the small connector plug at the ac (with the engine off). Then if the clutch plate is spinning for a least a few seconds, see if the big radiator fan starts spinning when the AC is turned ON with the engine at idle.
