3.2 B6342s Oil pressure switch location

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2009 XC90 3.2 AWD Nordic. The vehicle had done 107000 kms on purchase and has now done 130000kms 14 months later. I noticed when I bought it that the oil pressure light didn't come on, key on engine off. I initially suspected a blown dash bulb, which I checked, but found that the dashes printed circuit uses surfaced mounted LED's, so no bulb. I have since gone looking all over the engine where the oil pressure switch may be located so I can test it and the circuits function (check the light itself works).To date, I don't know where it is, so I don't know how this engine feeds back a low pressure warning to the driver. Online sources indicate that the engine uses a single pin screw in style oil pressure sender, but for the life of me I can't locate it. I even visited a local Volvo wrecker which had the same engine out of the vehicle with the inlet manifold removed, but no luck. I can find nothing on its location online. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The 3.2 is used by Volvo and it is used by Land Rover
(I own one of each, both with the 3.2)

Note: there are slight difference in the engine and it is possible that the XC90 has an oil pressure sending unit

There is no oil pressure switch on your engine.
Quote from the manual:

There is no oil pressure switch on the engine therefore low pressure is calculated by the ECM using the following data:
• High oil temperature >110°C.
• High holding current on the VCT actuator (>590mA).
If both of these conditions are fulfilled and the engine speed is <2900 rpm a message is then sent to the instrument pack which then illuminates the oil pressure warning lamp in the event of oil pressure failure.

PS if you wan to measure the oil pressure there is a port on the back of the engine plugged by a bolt, this would be the logical location for a sending unit.
