So , the Mrs.' sedan had turned the process of filling the washer fluid reservoir into an instant shoe wash station.

Diagnosis required removing the front bumper cover -- pretty simple, but the Vida instructions are wrong. They call for removing three fasteners to the aft of the splash shield which simply do not exist.

The problem: one of the high pressure lines to the headlight washer pump had cracked and was spewing fluid. The lines are an accordion style stiff plastic, guaranteed to fail.

Volvo wants $28 bucks for lines for both headlight washers sold as a package.

The fix: popped off to Advance Auto for a foot of rubber vacuum hose ($0.93 with tax -- I only needed about 7", but they sell it by the foot) of similar diameter to the Volvo plastic hose. Single edge razor used to very carefully slit the plastic hose where it went over the barb's to :1) a "Y" connector with the other headlight washer line and, 2) on the other end for the special 90° fitting into the high pressure washer pump. Testing revealed that pressure alone was sufficient to blow the vacuum line off the respective fittings, so I zip tied each end on.

Problem solved (for now). I did not do the passenger side when I was in there. It will go at some point (my luck, the middle of the winter).

Passenger side will require a longer hose since it has to go across the width of the car.

The headlight washers are higher pressure than windshield washer and the rubber hose may pop off. If it does then use zip ties as clamps. Probably would never pop off unless you use the more viscous washer fluids in higher than 50% concentration. Rain-X is, or was the last time I bought and used it, a bit thicker and one of the ones more likely to get the hose to go off.

Maybe a dab of superglue on the hard hose before you slip the flex hose over it?

Jimmy -- Correct about the pressure. That's why I zip tied it at both ends.

And I have to report that even zip tied at both ends, this "creative solution" proved to be creative, but no solution. Ended up getting the ridiculously over priced Volvo hard plastic pipe in the end since it appeared to be the only thing that would actually work.

Save yourself from having to do the job twice. Buy the Volvo part.
