85T5 Check Engine Light and Sucking Sounds

Post by nc volvo »

Check engine came on a couple of weeks ago. Tech says code suggests one of the two O2 sensors is bad (I didn't even know the wagon has two). Reset light. About the same time, I noticed loud vacuum sounds coming from front left wheel well. Sounds constant most of time - only occasionally do I not hear this. I'm assuming it's related to the charcoal canister. Are these two phenomena related and what would be the most strategic corrective path for diagnosis / repair? Any suggestions will be most appreciated!

I'm not sure what year you have, but I experienced the same type of sounds from my 850 turbo. If you have an early 850 94 -96, you can read the codes up in the front of the car (see front page of this site). If you have a newer car take it to an autoparts store and have them read your codes (it's free). After I replaced the front O2 sensor, I still had the problem and it turned out to be a bad Mass Air Flow sensor.

Hope this helps,

Brian
