These tables show all available US states and territories and the COVID-19 data for the last 5 days. I have sorted the states alphabetically and added growth rates for last several days for all states with ranking of each day. Of course, this information changes daily. I have presented the table in two parts because of the screen shot, but it is actually one table in Excel.

Again, results change daily.
I am posting this information in the afternoon now (mostly). I try to do outdoor work in the cooler morning and indoor work in the afternoon.

State growth rates for August 4, 2020. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate (the worst containment) are: US Virgin Islands (0.312) with 463 cases, North Dakota (0.136) with 6933 cases, Hawaii (0.129) with 2591 cases, Oklahoma (0.125) with 39,463 cases, and Guam (0.121) with 375 cases. All states have reopened to various levels. Many states have now paused or reversed opening actions. North Dakota has been in top 5 list for 23 of last 34 days. Oklahoma has been in top 5 list for 22 of last 34 days. Hawaii has been in top 5 list for 9 of last 12 days. US Virgin Islands has been in top 5 list for 5 of last 7 days. US Virgin Islands and Guam have few cases.

A column on the right shows the current growth rate divided by the 5 day moving average. No areas were over 2.0 yesterday (red highlight). Guam, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Navajo Nation were over 1.5 yesterday (yellow highlight). This column is an early warning of increasing cases beyond day to day noise.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0241 for yesterday, up from previous day of 0.0214. This is not population or case number weighted.

Below is a graph of the US daily average growth rate from March 3 to August 9, 2020. This calculated growth rate is the number of new cases each day divided by the previous day's active case number. As you can see, the first few weeks we had very high growth rate and then later in March the trend became a long, steady decline as the growth rate of all states declined. Then in the middle of June, the growth rate started to increase again. By the middle of July, the growth rate had doubled from mid June number as the new virus cases expanded quickly. Since the middle July, the growth rate has declined again.

We can hope the downward trend continues.

Again, results change daily.
I am posting this information in the afternoon now (mostly). I try to do outdoor work in the cooler morning and indoor work in the afternoon.

State growth rates for August 12, 2020. All information is based on reported information and actual results may be different.

For your information, the top 5 states or territories yesterday in growth rate (the worst containment) are: US Virgin Islands (0.492) with 639 cases, Guam (0.132) with 449 cases, Montana (0.110) with 5268 cases, Arkansas (0.103) with 51,114 cases, and Oklahoma (0.097) with 45,398 cases. All states have reopened to various levels. Many states have now paused or reversed opening actions. US Virgin Islands has been in top 5 list for 11 of last 15 days. Arkansas has been in top 5 list for 10 of last 17 days. Oklahoma has been in top 5 list for 27 of last 42 days. US Virgin Islands and Guam have few cases.

A column on the right shows the current growth rate divided by the 5 day moving average. Kansas, US Virgin Islands, and Veterans Affairs were over 2.0 yesterday (red highlight). Guam, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, and US Military were over 1.5 yesterday (yellow highlight). This column is an early warning of increasing cases beyond day to day noise.

My calculated growth rate for USA is 0.0228 for yesterday, down slightly from previous day of 0.0230. This is not population or case number weighted.
