2012 XC60 90k broken rear spring - level of effort?

Post by IronMike »

Backing out of driveway today and BANG! I’ve done front springs and struts, the rear seems easier but wondering about gotchas? Does the knuckle need to be detached? Assume I still need compressor but seems tight in there...

Here is what VIDA shows, can't say it is clear what needs to be done, but apparently special tools are needed.

Some of the parts stores have tool loan/rental. They might have a mechanical external spring compressor.

Thanks guys, those special service tools alone would be about $1500 - totally not worth it vs. paying someone. But if an external one like Jimmy posted works maybe I'll take this on. Quiet tight in there...

Idk about XC60, but in my 2005 XC90 2.5T, I used the floor jack as the compressor.
Much safer than the external compressor tool.

I wrote a detail DIY here...
