XC60 rear coil spring replacement

Post by Vova585 »

2015xc60 t6 65k. Regular rear suspension
Issue: broken left rear coil spring
Question: anyone of you friends had a pleasure to do this coil springs replacement? Looking for tips if it is beneficial to buy rear spring compressor vs to do it via car jack method. I understand that coil compressor may allow to remove old spring and put new one without disconnecting stabilizer bar links or trailing arm, but those units have questionable reliability and some people report units for 120-200 at times break while compressing...plus doubt I will be able to have enough room to use impact wrench since dont have lift so some speed will be lost there. Currently leaning towards car jack method since it will allow for better positioning possibly. It does not look like a bad job at all, but if one can do it faster...
Currently ordered 2 springs, 2 links, upper and lower spring insulators, blue lock tight. Anything else I am missing for this fun?
FYI: my parts dep person said that xc60 are notorious for broken rear coil springs and they keep them in stock. Price was $240 , however fcp sells for $200 same oem.

Quick update.
Was able to replace 1 side last night. Was surprised how easy the process was honestly. No need for spring compressor for this job. Harbor freight low profile jack with rubber pad worked magic to compress spring. Would highly recommend to buy rear stabilizer bar links at the same time(bolt snapped on mine when I was trying to unscrew the top nut). Overall I spent more time cleaning parts from ziebart(shame on me for ever falling for this) rubberized undercoating than actual work. Top spring insulators was in excellent shape (I replaced it anyway), bottom insulators was worn due to broken spring piercing through it. Looking back, would possibly want to replace bump stops, but not absolutely necessary as well(depends on your specific situation where spring broke and if it was rubbing against bump stop).
