Volvo 1989 240 Radio CR-712 repai removal replacement

Post by cmaxwell »

Hi
I'm a new member here, I have a 1989 240 Station Wagon with a what I think is the standard CR-712 (CR 72) radio that is not working too well, tape deck not working, station pre-set memory not working and the driver side speaker is not working. My fisrt question is can anyone tell me how to remove the radio so that I could send it off for repair, and are there any shops that could repair this radio ?
Second, would I be better off replacing it with a new Volvo radio or other make of radio, but the opening for the radio looks very different than standard car radios, so how would an after-market radio fit. Any advice and or opinions on my radio problem and solution would be greatly appreciated

I have an 81 245, wagon, and I replaced the radio. It is not that hard. Any audio shop can do it for you.

Berndog:
Can you post a photo of your radio? Is this a Volvo radio or aftermarket?
Note - it would be better to start a new posting for your specific question and year. The radio changed some over the years.
