Greetings All,
Getting ready to update the 2002 V70 X/C (168K miles) and I am wondering if I should remove and reseal my angle gear at the same time. Car is getting the following:
New Coils
Green Injectors
Larger 16T turbo (ported and polished just in case)
Mototec Down pipe and touring exhaust
do88 Drop-in Intercooler
do88 intake pressure piping
Snabb fresh air pipe
Tuning
A/C compressor, receiver dyers and expansion valve
Power steering Pump
200 Amp alternator (need a little extra for the stereo)
All fluids and filters
Cooling fan
Drop and clean oil pan
I replaced the seal on the angle gear 6 years ago (when I did not own the car) and have no leaks yet. I had not worked on a P2 Volvo before and did not pull the gear and reseal it. Just replaced the seal and tightened it all up with a pair of adjustable cir-clip pliers. I am more inclined to spend and additional $250.00 during a major overhaul,in order to re-seal the entire unit, than I am to leaving it be.
Can anyone tell me the sizes of the vacuum lines used on the P2 turbo cars? I am seeing 6.6 mm and 6 mm, among others, and I am not sure if the V70 uses special sizes.
Thanks,
Mike

Your profile says California.
I'd ignore the angle gear issues, no need for AWD in California.
Unless you go up Lake Tahoe in the winter.

For the small lines (TCV, CBV, etc) try to get 4mm ID with 3mm wall thickness silicone tubing. Just buy it in a big roll and use what you need. I like to mark mine with the colored electricians tape to match the original vacuum lines.
If the BG isn’t leaking, check &/or change the gear oil, verify its level and leave it be.

Yikes, definitely don't ignore/neglect a working angle gear, but also don't crack one open if it's not leaking. What Pete said.

Should I pull the angle gear out completely while changing the turbo and down pipe? It sounds like a painful job with the angle gear around?

swapping the turbo is a lot easier with the angle gear out of the way.Mike Langlois wrote: ↑24 Aug 2020, 10:08 Should I pull the angle gear out completely while changing the turbo and down pipe? It sounds like a painful job with the angle gear around?
For me the 2 bolts holding the oil drain pipe flange to the turbo was the hardest part,
it can be done easily if you have universal joints for elbows.

Unfortunately I have standard elbows and am not looking forward to parts of this upgrade. Sounds like the angle gear is coming out too..
