Agree with Ignatz.

Drop the pan. Clean with Zep Industrial cleaner, or take to a local garage with a parts washer. Clean the block and replace the plastic vent box. Remove the Banjo bolt and clean with Zep and air.
Tip to remove and install the banjo bolt: first remove the P/S and ALT. I don't remove the intake. removal of the P/S and Alt are the trick.

sooooo....I've just read through this entire thread...

The idea of flushing is an interesting one.

To play devil's advocate, Scotty says not to flush a modern engine and explains why....

Thoughts?

Goodnight Elizabeth! :)

What little sludge this does break up, will likely plug the oil pump pickup screen.
Pull the pan to clean properly.
when you see the amount of crud in the pan and how solid it is, you will understand.

R/R of the pan is not that bad, it is the remove of the crud that takes time.
