Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

code(s) du jour

Post by smatt1079 »

I had my S80 in the shop for the oil leak and they suggested an o2 sensor - which i knew it needed. I've blown enough money on this car, so why not?

So, they change it, then they tell me its still not working. $400 and still have a cel on.

So, there werent any performance issues, it was just a goof ball cel on. So i get in it, and its idling like CRAP.

and now the cel is on, and i get a display about emissions.

p1237
p0154
p1172
p0300
p0141

I die a little inside every time I look at this car.

Sorry to hear your troubles. Sounds like both oxygen sensor are giving you a code as well as the turbo and the fuel trim issue...once again leaking hoses or bad MAF can do this, or in your car, it could be electrical gremlins. Might help to clear codes by disconnecting the battery (for several minutes and stepping on the brake while disconnected- make sure you have your radio code) and pulling the ECU and reseating it.
P1237 Turbocharger control system flow fault, flow too low permanent/intermittent fault
P0141 Rear heated oxygen sensor preheating faulty/intermittent fault
p0154 Front heated oxygen sensor, bank 2, faulty/intermittent fault
p0300 misfire (at least one cylinder)
p1172 long-term fuel trim, lower limit

Otherwise, the shop fubarred the repair and you should take the car back and complain about worse issues and more codes than before they had it.
Let us know what else is up and what relief you get.

I was pretty sure that the rear driver side o2 sensor was bad, but the shop insisted it was the front sensor.

do you think changing out the rear o2 sensor would make any or all of these things better, or do nothing?

Hard to say...it could. If you're above 120K miles and it has never been changed, best to go ahead with it, (but you're less than 80K right?) but I'm still not convinced (never was) that it's the 02 sensor(s).

its the gremlins.

yes, less than 80kmi

I do have a cheapo odbII scanner and thats where i got the codes and i did erase them.

so, cleared the codes, of course it still ran like crap. Revved and revved and revved, finally smoothed out.

took it for about a mile ride, ran perfect, cel didnt come back.

scanned for codes, none.

what color truck do you think I should go trade it in for? I like maroon.

Started it up this morning and it ran like crap again. Got to work, still no CEL on, but I ran the codes before I came in and had these two back:

P0141 Rear heated oxygen sensor preheating faulty/intermittent fault
p0154 Front heated oxygen sensor, bank 2, faulty/intermittent fault

Does that change your mind at all to whats wrong? I think they changed the front one, and he told me that sometimes one not working lets the other go haywire

???

The intention is to trade this in, but i figure I should have it running right first. I bought a generic o2 sensor for the rear a few weeks ago, do you think its worth slapping it in and seeing what happens?

You said the front has been changed but not the back, right? Did a reputable garage do this? Part numbers (for awhile at least) were wrong for the front sensor and if they tried to cheap out with a generic one that could be the issue. At this point I would go with a new rear one as well...could clear things up. Tell your shop that you're not going to be happy or satisfied until the car comes back running right with no codes. They need to make it right.
