What's going on in this engine bay?

Sorry Pro Drift cars but the coolest vehicle running one of our @wintersrears Quickchange diff and subframe setups just might be this 5 cylinder TWO STROKE land speed racer S13 that belongs to our client Jack. The car has been 194.16 MPH and 200 MPH is in sight. The custom 2 stroke 5 banger displaces 1958cc, shifts at 9100 RPM and makes about 92 horsepower per cylinder. One thing I never thought about having never worked on a Bonneville car before was what the salt does to anything made of steel. This subframe required some serious prep work removing the surface rust before getting modded for the quick change in order to get it to a weldable state. Best of luck to Jack on his next outting.

This first image specifically. Those exhaust pipes are very strange... because it's a 2-stroke? They narrow down dramatically. Something with 2-stroke combustion I'm guessing?

Two-stroke smoke ! My guess is the oil goes in the with the fuel.

Most two stroke engines that make any serious horsepower use a tuned exhaust. They have an expansion chamber of the shape seen in both car photos. Think of two stroke motorcycle exhausts you have seen (or google dirt bike).

5 two stroke cylinders with expansion chamber. The noise from that would be a weapon.

As a teen, I had a early 1980s Honda 500XL enduro motorcycle, 4-stroke, street legal. My friend had a 125cc two-stroke. Off the line it was no contest, I beat him. But his 125 would come on strong once we got moving. My 500 was big and heavy, and would lose power after 10 minutes when it got hot.

I rode a different 125cc 2-stroke tuned for racing when I was a freshman college student, and it had enormous power band up high. The front wheel came up on me high in the rev band. It was not a novice-friendly bike at all.

I have no doubt in my mind the smoke and noise from these two cars in this thread would be substantial.
