Need to do up close leg work and the price is high. Seller trying to recoup all his money?

Good: San Rafael is on the Marin side of the Golden Gate Bridge with mild weather and is wooded so it may have not been sun beaten but the hues of the silver around the car is off in many places. Viewing on a 32" 2560 x 1440 monitor. The door cards aren't blistered, Smogged regularly and only failed once.

Yellow Flags: Clear is peeling, driver's side passenger door painted(?), front plate is mangled and bumper looks good, gave wrong VIN and engine and bay is very dirty. Perhaps a sign of the care the car really received on a day to day basis? Interior can hide a lot of grunge. Silver really hold up well in those year so don't let the shine fool you. My 98 S70 T5 at 235K (pic attached) photo'd well and did have a deep shine but up close, especially bumpers were in bad shape.

Car basically has a fairly good history with current owner. Paintwork does leave a bit to be desired as MoVolvo says. Lot of color variation of LR door and RF fender. Interior is pretty good. Price is high though in my opinion. These cars are not as desirable as the 850R or T5R. Complications of many rear sub-frame and suspension parts as well as rear rakes are NA at dealer and aftermarket.

When they are running they are great. My car is similar in that paint is what lets it down. Stone chips and bumpers (as other drivers like to use them as back stops here). Having said that, $6900 is more than I would ask for my car in CDN$ and I have $20,000 + into it over the last 8 years.

Bottom line, is if you see it, drive it and like it, then what you feel comfortable paying is what it is worth to you.

It looks great. Good service history, low miles, highly favorable climate for a Volvo. Will need some maintenance as it ages but not going to fall apart nearly as quickly as many P80 AWDs with less maintenance and from other parts of the country.

bmdubya98 is probably going to say it's overpriced and he knows these markets extremely well, but IMO it's not a bad price for the condition and the market.
Lol he actually texted this one to me earlier, I think it looks pretty good! The price isn't too bad, but I would definitely try to talk him down a little. It's worth paying a little more for a well sorted one, and this one looks like it's been kept up.
I see the paint issues though, the only real concern is the RL door. Color looks a little off, probably got replaced at some point due to a dent. The clear peel on the rear window trim is extremely common, every P80 I've had has been like that. The fading on the front bumper will likely buff off, mine is the same way. I've just been too lazy to do anything about it.

That said, if it drives perfectly, it's probably a $5k car. It looks straight and the interior is clean.

Overpriced. It’s a flipper who paid 2k for it.

The VIN is troubling.

An R with automatic is just sadness.

If he's lying about the work he's done, it very well could be. Otherwise, as a flipper myself, I would never pay $5,500 for the dealer to replace a transmission on a flip car.

Agreed on the last point, while that transmission was out he should have had the correct one installed, along with an additional pedal!

I've seen a few Volvos for sale with 'R' badges fitted. Best laugh is FWD cars with 'R' badges on them. Then there was the recent one I posted that was badged as an XC70 R on a P80. Several of the 'R's are V70 AWD cars re-badged.

If I lived in a more rural place then I would agree with the manual swap idea. However as an older guy with a bum ankle having an auto is the only option for me in busy stop go traffic. Car is modified (by previous owner) and with the 5 speed auto it is quick enough for me. Was quicker with a hair trigger throttle until the dealer decided to upgrade the throttle body software and wiped the tune and the hair trigger throttle. Update was for a Volvo ETM not the Xemodex my car has.
