1998 Volvo v70 xc - awd fuel pump issue?

Mostly cost. Volvo units are horribly expensive but typically last a long time. Aftermarket ones can require modification to work/fit and can be noisy.

For me there are 2 deciding factors.

1) If this was a FWD car then I would probably take a chance on a recognisable brand like Walbro as changing a FWD pump is a pain but not too bad. For an AWD due to the work involved to replace (cutting out the floor or dropping the rear sub-frame) I would defer to the OE pump as I would not like to do that again if possible.

2) How long are you hoping to keep the car? Again, if for maybe a couple of years maybe chance an aftermarket one in an AWD car, especially if the car is not too precious and you have cut the floor out.

The only bonus in dropping the AWD rear sub-frame is you get a chance to assess it's condition and you get access to the top of the fuel tank. The down side is that many of the parts in an AWD P80 are NLA for the rear including fuel pipes, and various emissions rubber pipes.
The plus is you may be able to find a long term fix while in there.

The choice is then yours!

Got another question, did anyone know approximately where the fuel pump ground is?

Good question. Can't honestly remember as it has been a few years since I replaced the pump. I think it may be near where the wiring comes through the floor in the trunk area. Sub-frame is aluminum so not grounded on there.
