S70 wiper delay relay

Post by patcal »

Greetings,

So I tried to install the wiper delay relay. I used this one which I was told was the correct one.

https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/53049/ ... s-3200110/

It is not allowing me to adjust the delay time. I get about 5 seconds now matter what. I do have it in the right socket. Not sure it will go into any other but I double checked. Any thoughts? Would really like to get this to work before the Oregon rains start.

That is strange. The best way to get a working one is from a junkyard. Pull the 99 relay out of any 90ies VW that you can find.
I have never knowingly seen a KAE relay, despite having owned a few VWs.
Maybe the part is faulty. Because normally it is just a plug in and it works thing.
I don't think you can put it in the wrong way, but maybe give that a try.

Just a follow up. I bought a genuine VW relay #99. It works perfect. Thanks.

Interesting. I got a KAE relay (probably the same PN, I don't remember) from NAPA, and it didn't work for me either. I'm going to have to get that 99 relay.

I have a KAE intermittent relay, not sure if it is the same part number, but it programs differently from the 99 relay. Put the wiper switch to delay position, then pull the stalk toward you briefly like for a fluid squirt, when the appropriate time has passed pull the stalk again to set the interval.

I never saw anything online about a different way to program the delay. I'm just glad to have it working before the rains start here in Portland.

I saw someone mention that before as well, but that didn't work for mine. It must be a different one. I'll have to try again, because I think I just pulled the stalk once.
