Seeking exhaust recommendation for Whitey: 1998 v70 AWD

Post by markone »

Whitey needs its exhaust system replaced. Previous owner used a European import, 304 stainless steel at best. He reported quality and fitment issues. I like the two muffler appearance, but am not wedded to that idea. Does anyone have any opinions on how to move ahead? Thanks!

Not sure how much it will cost but looking at having a custom system built in T304. If that system you have is T304 it should not be rusted. Most aftermarket systems are expensive and made from crap like T409 which is no better than mild steel.

I have seen T304 systems out there but mostly in Europe.

Dual OE systems are NA for years unfortunately.

Not too bad, about $135

You need the pipe to connect to the cat too, another $40 or so

Will last 5 VT summers or one winter

That is a good find! May have to look at this for my car. For a car that does very little mileage like mine and does not do a lot outside in winter, this may be worth it!

Thanks for sharing!

Indeed a good find. I am assuming that a cheap system like this does not have great rust protection and the material can't be high quality either.
But maybe coating it with something before installation could extend the life, perhaps even a thick coating or two of painted on zinc primer. It doesn't get that hot back there so that should be no problem.

Thank you for the suggestions. Seems to be a barbell situation- El Cheapo on one end, custom 304 (maybe $1,200) on the other. Not much in the middle, huh?

I recently bought a Ferrita cat-back system from Viva Performance in 304 stainless for my 850. It was made in Sweden and cost about $700 delivered. Quality was quite good, and it came with stainless clamps and high quality rubber hangers. They have a few options for V70.

When I asked the folks at Viva for recommendations, this is what they came back with:

Downpipe:
https://www.vivaperformance.com/tme-per ... s-v70-awd/

Exhaust:
https://www.vivaperformance.com/exhaust ... 0-v70-awd/

https://www.vivaperformance.com/ferrita ... 0-v70-awd/

https://www.vivaperformance.com/tme-exh ... 0-v70-awd/

All of these exhausts are made in Sweden, Ferrita, Viva and TME. Two week lead times, roughly.

SO, that could be rated as VT 5S/1W? Perhaps we can get other exhaust VT rated?
