O2 sensor -99 S80, P0135 fault.

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

O2 sensor -99 S80, P0135 fault.

Post by GregerG »

I'm having this problem with my 99 S80, display is showing emission problems, the lambda light is on.
OBD test shows code P0135 "O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 1".

Which sensor is this, the one towards the front of the catalyser?
What's the pinout of the connector? I got two black, one blue and one white cable.
What's normal heater resistance in cold state?

I need to know which one the bank1 sensor1 is so I can order a new one...
would appreciate if someone here knew...
Cheers!!

Bank one, sensor one is the front one...before the CAT.
Note the routing of the wiring...the actual connector plug is in the engine compartment under the deflector plate and above the turbo, and the wiring should be routed over the brake pipe. This is very important. Don't try to guess the wires and buy a universal 02 sensor. Buy the entire sensor with wiring and connector and do it right. I've heard nothing but bad for those who have clipped the wires and tried to install something that was not OEM (Bosch). For this part, compare prices at eeuroparts.com (free shipping on orders of $39 or more), www.fcpgroton.com and http://www.autohausaz.com/

Beyond what I have typed, I cannot help you any further without knowing if your car has a turbo or not and if it is a 5 or 6 cylinder vehicle that takes gas or diesel and if it's AWD or FWD. Depending, some cars have to be jacked up and lower the exhaust with the SIPS and brake pipe intact to get to this.

Well, cost is a factor and I guess Bosch's are a bit cheaper than originals,
I have this LS07 0258986507-36Y replacement that should be the correct one, however the connector isn't the same.
First of all I needed to know which one the P0135 Bank1 Sensor1 is supposed to be, then I can try to find a new one...

Bosch is the OEM...sorry if you misunderstood my post.

Does your S80 have 2 front sensors? Some do.

You still haven't filled in all the information I asked you about.
The reason I have is I have the entire replacement service for your car cataloged as well as wiring diagrams that I can send you.

Let me add a couple of more thing to the list:
Engine: (IE: B5204T3?)
Transmission (IE: AW50-42?)

These designations help me determine exactly what model and thus what sensors, etc. you have. There were many varieties of the S80 made and some have different parts and different methods to replace even this sensor.

I'd say it got two front sensors yes...

I'm afraid I can't find the gearbox/engine-codes, it's absolutely impossible to access them from above, the manual shows where they should be but I can't see any of them, maybe if I hoist the entire car up I could access them from below...
So I can't say if the engine is B5204T3 or B5402T4... or if the gearbox is M56 or M65.
It's an T+S80 -99 (don't ask me what the T or + stand for - it sure aint got a turbo) 125kW non-turbo 5-cyl. gasolin engine with manual 5gear shift box and front wheel drive....

Why does it all have to be so complicated, can't they stick to a list of known parts instead of making lots of versions with minor changes :)

I agree, but by narrowing down that it's not a turbo and that you have 2 front sensors I believe you've helped more than you know. I have a copy of VADIS that has the procedure for your car. I've sent you an email through this website and if you respond, I'll send you a PDF file from VADIS that should help.
After you get the instructions (it will show you how to find the connectors), to figure out which 02 sensor (which front one) is bad, reset your code and then unplug one of them and see if the same code comes back. If you get more codes, you will know that you unplugged the wrong one. Hope this helps. .

Email sent with attachment. Knowing it is a manual transmission and without turbo simplifies things considerably.

Hi made in japan

I have been trying to find you. lucky found from the exact topic

My car is 98 s70 non turbo

I read my CEL code which says O2 sensor circuit mulfunction ( bank 1 sensor 1)

First I thought its the front sensor.
But when I go to data in my scaner it shows O2s11 reads voltage ( when i start engine, volvtage reading start from around 0.6 some times 0.45 and goes down gradually as engine heats)

I get 0.00volts for o2s12 and never show anything else( I belive this is the faulty)

After couple of hours studyn i knew o2s11 is the front sensor ( when I plug out the connecter the reading freez and when i plug in the readin in scaner again shows with normal fluctuation.

but when I interchange the two connecters still i get reading for o2s11 which means my rear sensor also good. what you say?
so my problem is some where in the wires? i am right

please help me where I can look for the fault

I have a brand new sensro ready too, but AS I said I my rear sensor also works i didnt use it.

please give me an idea

I apritiate you help

Bank1 Sensor1 is on the passenger side before catalytic converter.
Bank1 Sensor2 is on the driver side before the catalytic converter.
Bank2 Sensor1 is on the passenger side after catalytic converter.
Bank2 Sensor2 is on the driver side after the catalytic converter.
This pertains to my 1999 s80 t6 turbo
p0135 is a generic code that reads bank1 sensor1
