May have beat yanga to one of his list, got the winter tires ordered for the 'R'. As I use it so little I am going to try narrower tires to reduce the cost of tires that will rot out before they will ever wear out. The current tires are about 9-10 years old, still not particularly worn, or rotted but past their prime.

Yea my mechanic past along a set of tires + roofrack + foglights for 130 cad to me. I only realized after that the tires are in great condition with no excessive cracking or leaks, but they are 10 years old. They are summers so im not too worried about them. I managed to get brand new winters when i bought one of the other s70's so those will last me a few years.

I pose a question here:
for the p80 platform, do you guys find it cheaper to buy a bunch of new individual parts, or just by parts cars, strip them, and keep on trucking with used parts.

I find that they are at an odd age where most of the poorly maintained ones were already scrapped, so we are left with mainly mechanically working variants.

Unless it’s a big project I’ve not found sitting parts cars too economical.

A brake caliper is a $75 part new, but it’s an hour of labor to remove , so that’s a $25 penalty on my books

Once suspension parts start coming off, the car is harder to move so you have to have a rural friendly HOA too.

For Grunhilde, with a huge front end rebuild , a parts car was the only way to an economical repair.

If you don’t have a good PnP nearby make lots of friends with ones nearby, and don’t forget to use the Junkyard request Thread, here.... https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forum ... =6&t=92728

I find parts cars are best for minor parts- electrical wires and connectors, switches, door and wiper hardware, trim if not sun exposed, and similar items. I do not typically reuse parts for hard parts like engine, brakes or suspension. I do not have a close PnP that has any Volvos.

I've found that very little needs replacement besides wear items, and those are cheap enough that I'd rather buy them new and have the peace of mind. The only other things that really ever need replacement are interior plastics, which break any time you look at them wrong, and junkyard parts end up doing the same when you try to take them apart. So it's easier to just glue and rivet your original parts back together and hope for the best.

Picked up a nice load of living room furniture at an estate sale.

Nasty trip back, my tarp got loose and wrapped into the axle, melted and fused in.

Yuck.

Parts cars for these are usually not economical unless you have the space for it and don't have access to a pick and pull lot. Or like Abscate said, some big projects could warrant it. In my case, I have a parts car currently to swap the delta link rear subframe into my V70R.

I replaced the ignition switch in my S70. It has been bad ever since I bought the car in 2012 and the other day I had to struggle for several minutes to get the key to "bite".

Is that a brand new assembly? If not, it looks super clean.
