Here's #2 https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/1985- ... 740-turbo/

From Car & Driver. I loved them. Sigh.

I had a 1989 Volvo 760 Turbo. Liked the car except in the winter where it was useless in the snow unless you loaded up the trunk with bags of sand. Even then the auto wasn't great in the snow. Otherwise it had the engine re-build due to damage piston rings in one cylinder. Engine was re-build by an ex-Rolls Royce mechanic. Beautiful job. Car than really well until someone decided they had to buy it as they liked it more. Great to drive and very comfortable. One I miss, but preferred the 940 Turbo HPT (2.0 litre) I had in Europe. That was a truly excellent car and had a stick shift as well!

I found this very interesting:

That 740T in the Car & Driver review weighed a little less than 3000 lbs. 2960 lbs if memory serves. It made 160 HP, which gave it not-embarassing 0-60 times of 7.9 seconds.

2960 lbs, dear friends, is what cars should weigh.

Today cars are blindingly heavy, requiring gigantic engines. For instance, the 2020 Mercedes S Class weighs 4885 lbs. That's not an SUV. SUVs are typically far heavier than cars. (My 2017 VW wagon weighs around 3400 pounds, and it's a fairly small car.)

So not only do these big Mercedes and other chunky sedans need twin-turbo V8s and the like, they need monster tires to keep that 2.5 tons going where it's supposed to go.

It's all completely absurd.
