Used OE radio

Post by Dave0304XC »

Hello Volvo world, looking at an 08 S60 to purchase, it has an aftermarket stereo installed. If I purchase a used OE radio / cd player, (junkyard or ebay) if I have the radio code, could I get it to work in this car? Is the radio intended to only work in its original car? Thanks, Dave

The SC-XXX radios used security codes. If you have the VIN number of the car a SC-xxx radio left the factory in. You can get the code online here.

The '08 S60 came with HU-650 or HU-850. The HU ( Head Unit ) series radios do not need a security code. There are two different BUS types for the HU series. MELBUS and MOST. The 2008 S60 is MELBUS.

MELBUS Head Units
HU-105
HU-401/411
HU-403/413
HU-405, HU-415
HU-450
HU-555 (only one peripheral channel)
HU-605, HU-615
HU-655
HU-801. HU-601/611
HU-803, HU-603/613
HU-850, HU-650
HU-1205

The HU-1205 has nav satnav but it think it was for the Europen market only. Your best pick would be a HU-850. HU-650 is the runner up.

When when you go picking these are the car you want to check.

Rick- you sure know your Volvo stereos! My local JY has 3 or 4 S60s, and a couple of V70s also. was just there yesterday. All have OE radios installed, probably HU650s. Dont need anything more elaborate than the 650. Sounds like an easy switch out 🙂. When that yard runs its weekend special on radios, I can pick one of those up for $10. Thanks for the assistance! Dave

Anyone experienced a Volvo s60 2014 SiriusXM that works but cannot get any channels above 219? I have different brands of cars that get all the channels up through the 300s, 400s et they are on the same subscription package from SiriusXM.

Thanks
