2004 v40, diesel, trouble starting

Hi,

We've just bought an ex surrey police v40 diesel estate, and it doesnt like starting, engine just turns not trying to fire, then all of a sudden a couple of coughs fires and acts like nothing is wrong

any suggestions?

You may be having glow plug problems.

They can be tested but, if Surrey Police workshops is anything like Durham Police workshops, they would never be done.

I should be slightly outraged at the durham police remark, being from bishop auckland, but my guess is falls in to the "if it aint broke don't fix" category!

I had thought about the glow plugs,

any suggestion on a good independant mechanic up this way, as i'm about as good with the spanners as my cats!

That sums up most Police workshops.

I assume you are still in the Bishop Auckland area. I have lost touch with the garages over there but if you are prepared to travel to the Meadowfield/Langley Moor area I can definitely recommend someone. Let me know.
